Some time ago I made the above from a length of 20mm aluminium angle from B&Q, a ball head from Jessops and a few other scrap bits. (I spray painted it this year as it was getting sad)

It generally lives in my rucksack and has not caused any security problems at any airports (as yet) I've been through.

It carries my K10D happily and will perch on uneven ground quite well (a bungy cord will hold it firmly on a gate/tree.

Think you need to be careful with this one - you might get sued for design copyright with the Ultrapod...

Yours looks quite a bit sturdier though as well as more lethal!!

When I'm travelling I usually just take a Slik Mini Pro V "table top" tripod and a bean bag - most of the time I find somewhere to put one of them although obviously it's not the perfect solution.

As everyone else says - terrific shots, I'd love the opportunity to take photos like these of such a terrific little creature

You might not know it but if you put your photo in a frame they can't remove it you know because another frame might alter the intend you've with the photo so it's under the copyright law.
Hi Stefan...had no idea about that, it would be a very difficult one to enforce though - I don't really have a problem with people swapping frames anyway to be honest, the mounts I use are designed to be able to fit standard frames sizes to make life easier for potential customers.

why go to the expense of framing i wonder if doing that you could have a"right picture ,wrong frame" situation and possibly miss a sale .
i wonder if just plain white or cream cardboard mounts are enough in the environment your selling in:
It's a good question and something I'm seriously thinking about but mainly based on experiences of selling at a couple of galleries/craft centres where sales are mainly to tourists/visitors rather than the locals who are more likely to be at the craft fairs I'm considering.

So far I've found that I sell more framed photographs than mounted ones, whilst I'm not certain why my guess is that people don't want the hassle of getting it framed themselves - also the pricing structure I use means that people are paying much less than they would if approaching a framing shop, although unfortunately I'm not convinced everyone realises this.

Even if I decided that I wasn't intending to sell lots of framed photographs I still see it as pretty much essential to have 3 or 4 large framed prints on display in an effort to grab peoples attention - just displaying mounted photographs wouldn't achieve this so well

do you really make a bit of cash when you sell a print?
If you sell it for cash, then yes.

If you sell it for a hamburger, then you make a hamburger.

Next question....

G
To be fair the question did really ask for that!!

back on track...

I've now looked into a couple of local craft fairs and prices are very reasonable, £10 for a 6ft space - I need to provide my own table/stand for this price. I did consider a cheap wallpapering table from B&Q etc but there's no way it would take the weight of frames etc. For anyone interested this is the best/cheapest option I've found so far

If anyone has a better/cheaper alternative I'd welcome the suggestion!!

I can probably make some sort of makeshift stand to attach to the table to hang framed photos from, I already have a couple of browsers so mounted-only photos will be fine. I'm thinking I'll give it a try in the run up to Christmas. I'm really using the local craft fair to see if it's my "thing" or not, I'll probably have a go at some of the larger fairs around North Wales next year if it works out ok

Like them all but No3 for me, I like how both the quarry roads and road down to the left act as lead-ins taking you over to the distant mountains and coastline. Lovely colours too which have been pretty rare over the last few months I have a new K5 just sat waiting to catch a few landscape shots if this bl**dy weather would sort itself out!!

Stephan hit the nail on the head there, on how to do it...
Only problem is I deliberately make sure that I don't get any people in my photos...

I've created a separate FB page for the business side of things as my thinking is that it conveys a more professional image than a personal site as I can more easily control the content. Having said that i can see the advantage of the personal touch so depending how things go may well change my mind in future

DA12-24mm, for such a wide angle it really does produce very sharp images - reviews suggest it outperforms the Pentax prime lenses in the same range, I've never compared but I can well believe it

I've no doubt you need to be careful Don, my initial intention at least is to use it more as a way of driving additional traffic to my main website by only placing a few "teaser" images on the main page and then adding links to my main site - should be interesting to see if my traffic increases if nothing else

Simon
I'm leaning the other way... using the facebook profile to draw more people towards my business, then referring contacts over to my website if they enquire about seeing some work before setting up an appointment....
That's pretty much the same thing as I'm doing Don, using it as a vehicle to raise my profile/customer base (hopefully!!)
