It might be instructive to join an image library and find out what real rates are.

I did a fill the buffer test between my class 6 and class 10 cards on my K-5 and there was a difference. It was about 10% to 20% difference, which was a quite a few seconds, and might make all the difference if your machine gunning
I have both class 6 & 10 and as you say there definitely is a difference although I've mainly noticed it just with singles shot write times, which is the same situation as with my K5

no, the cards make a large difference. Are you writing RAW+ or just RAW?

I'm shooting just RAW Brett, looks like I'll be buying a couple of Extreme Pro cards - for my usual landscapes obviously speed isn't quite so important but when travelling it's suprising how much difference the odd few milliseconds can make

Slightly off topic but I was in the main square in Helsinki on Friday 12th August and a film crew was filming lots of young guys in Ice Hockey gear, any idea what that was all about? - I was going to PM you but whilst we're conversing

I'll start this by saying I'm absolutaely delighted with my K5, particularly following a recent holiday where it excelled in all conditions.

The reason for my post is that I noticed that images take a little while to save to the card, seems longer than with my previous K20D. I use Class 10 Sandisk Extreme cards (30 mb/s) so I'm thinking that it's a limtation of the buffer/software rather than card speed so even the latest spec ultrafast cards probably won't make any difference - anyone else given this any thought?

thanks

I don't like the affiliates and licencees bit. I'd be quite restrictive and allow the use in a single publication but no more than that. Give them an inch and you'll find the image as the backbone for a global magazine advertising campaign.
My thoughts exactly, I'm not opposed completely to allowing free usage of my images, in fact I've just done so this week, but it very much depends on the organisation asking and AMEX certainly seem to be looking for free advertising material to me, considering their stature I wouldn't personally allow this one on "carte blanche" T&Cs

Well before buying the K5 I would definitely have voted yes, having just given it an extensive tryout whilst away on holiday though I'm now much more less inclined to buy a fast prime as despite taking along my FA35mm F2 I never used it once.

The K5 and DA12-24 is a terrific low light option, I'm pretty amazed at some of the shots I managed in very low lighting conditions, I have several shots (still processing them)at Iso 6400 which have retained incredible detail even with noise reduction in ACR, several are taken at 1/5sec handheld too

No, I might be wrong but didn't your winning pic spark the revelation that the BBC will take a licence if you send a pic and sell it on if they want.
I don't think so, not that I'm aware anyway - as part of the competition rules I accepted it's use for related publicity provided credit was given

Re: cabstar's big banners, Gwyn's revelation of image theft and the thread about the BBC using photos sent to them for sale via stock photo orgs (Simonkits winning photo, if I remember them correctly)

I've been away for a few days and just read this thread - you mention my photo being used without permission, did I miss something?

thanks

I've commented on this thread previously regarding how impressed I am with the K5 vs my previous K20D, this comment was based mainly on usage for my landscape photography though, which perhaps doesn't test the K5 to it's limits.

Having just returned from holiday I feel the need to add to my previous comments having put the K5 thoroughly through it's paces and I'm delighted to say that I've been blown away by it's abilities, high iso (mainly used at 6400) and the image detail it captures are stunning, way beyond anything the K20D was capable of.

I also found Live View to be extremely useful and very useable - it allowed me to capture shots that otherwise would have been impossible. A large number of my shots were in very low light (museums/palaces/churches) and the K5 + 12-24 performed brilliantly, no FF issues, very accurate white balance, great high iso images which retain amazing detail even after noise reduction in ACR.

I'll not go on anymore as I'm pretty sure I'm getting the message across - I'm thoroughly delighted with the K5,very impressive piece of kit and worth every penny I spent on it!!
