My sunrise photograph of Snowdon, chosen as Regional Winner (Wales) in the 2011 National Countryside Photography Competition, is published in THE TELEGRAPH newspaper today together with the other regional winners - here's a link to the electronic version

For GND you might want to look at square filter instead, i beleive hi-tech formatt is priced quite well.
I use the Hi-tech ones, I find them a little better than the previous Cokin filters I used - both still give a colour cast but the Hi-tech seem to be less so

If you take any landscape shots then a polariser is a must, I also own a set of NDgrads which I use only rarely, still useful to have though. If you fancy trying a few long exposures then a 10stop ND filter is a good idea, I have a B+W one although so far I've only used it a couple of times - note to self, must use that 10stop

btw - Whose Charlie Waite?
I'm not sure if you're serious or not Just in case - one of the top landcape photographers in UK, if you knew ok you got me

I've actually emailed him through his website to see he'll respond/provide me with some feedback - we'll see how that goes

I forgot to mention that Prince Charles asked me what camera I use, Canon or Nikon was his comment - I replied that I used a pretty unknown brand called Pentax for which he gave me a bit of a wry smile, not sure he'd heard of them

To be fair it was worth it alone because you have started your post...

"The Prince's PR company have just emailed me...."

I cant imagine you,ve been in a position to say that before!
You're definitely right on that count, not likely to happen again in future either so I'm trying my best to make the most of the opportunity

The Prince's PR company have just emailed me to confirm that an article will be in The Telegraph tomorrow (Saturday). I'm not sure exactly of the contents but hopefully I'll be in a photo somewhere!!

Apparently ITV Wales and BBC Wales have also been contacted so I may just get 5 minutes of fame, it's all good fun either way!!

Thanks...not sure my wife would always agree about the "nice guys" reference though

I've been contacted by the PR company for the event who have things well in hand, photos and information is going out to local press of the winners so hopefully a little bit of promotion will reap a few rewards!!

Just back after the Garden party yesterday afternoon and have to say it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, very relaxed and informal and Prince Charles was very approachable, down to earth and quite humouress, he spent 3hrs chatting to all 120 guests.

I had several photos taken with the Prince as well as with the other regional winners - I'm hoping that Archant/Great British Life will be supplying me with some of the days promotional material shortly. Apparently a feature on the event will be appearing in all the regional "life" magazines (Cheshire Life etc) and perhaps Photography Monthly.

Unfortunately I didn't win the overall prize which went to Kris Dutson, a professional photographer from Dorset - nice guy who me & the wife spent most of the day with, great photo too.

The only slight disappointment of the day was Charlie Waite who didn't really make any contact with the photographers and left the event early without taking part in the presentation ceremony - shame as I was hoping for some feedback from him but I guess he's a busy man?

Always used .DNG with K10D, K20D and now K5 - the only downside is slightly larger file sizes on your model but memory is pretty cheap now so I can't really see a reason to use PEF.
