I cannot now record to audacity.
The problem likely is your input device selection in Audacity although it could be your general Windows audio settings.

In Audacity try to click Edit then preferences and then devices. Under Recording there is a drop down box that says device; try various options there starting with the Microsoft sound mapper.

If that fails I suggest you seek help on the Audacity forums.

When did you download the latest version of Audacity as 1.2.6 appears to be the latest "good" version - There is a later Beta version which may have bugs in it.
The advice they give out is to use the 1.3.x beta series generally and specifically if you are on Windows 7. (This is in preparation for a 2.x release sometime soon, with 1.2 long ago discontinued.)

In 1.3 you can drag, stretch and hide (View-->Toolbars) the various icon groups.

It’s a great program.

recent developments in [Apple's] subscription licensing?

. . Apple’s imposition of new terms for publishers of subscription based content that a) Apple will charge a 30% flat rate commission on iTunes sales and b) no similar subscriptions offered outside the iTunes store may undercut pricing therein.

I trust you are not seriously suggesting this move is designed to ensure a “seamless customer experience”.

. . .I give it 9 months before this gets binned, one way or the other.

Apple Frees Publishers and Users from App Store’s Draconian Content Subscription Rules

Jesus Diaz — Apple has finally recognized that their App Store content subscription policy was total bullshit and reversed it, no longer making stupid demands to publishers and other content providers. Their ridiculous pricing and in-app purchase dictates are now gone.

Before, the App Store guidelines said the following:

Apps can read or play approved content (magazines, newspapers, books, audio, music, video) that is sold outside of the app, for which Apple will not receive any portion of the revenues, provided that the same content is also offered in the app using IAP at the same price or less than it is offered outside the app. This applies to both purchased content and subscriptions.

The new guidelines change this completely, eliminating any requirement for offering the same price and the requirement to offer external subscriptions as in-app purchases:

. . .The change comes right after the Financial Times gave the finger to Apple this week, releasing an HTML5-based app to avoid the then-obligatory Apple's content subscription tax.

Oh and by the way, for sharing files try http://www.dropbox.com/

You get 2GB of free online storage, and various ways you can add to this at nil charge.

Install, then just drop files you want to share into the public folder, right click and obtain a url anybody can access.

Or keep them all to yourself shared across multiple computers, synched via your network or the net.

OK - here is a link to one of the files that I am having trouble with.

I dare say that if you dump it onto an SD card you will be able to view the photo on your camera but I cannot get it into any program on the PC.
I think the problem here is that what you are posting is a copy of a file with corrupt data, that neither you or anybody else can get much out of. Because the data is corrupt!

However, this doesn’t provide any clues as to whether alternative methods might extract additional/missing data from the original media.

I would try to take a look at this comprehensive article, with detailed step-by-step instructions: HowgtoGeek: Recover Data Like a Forensics Expert Using an Ubuntu Live CD

Good luck!

How to Recover that Photo, Picture or File You Deleted Accidentally

image

Have you ever accidentally deleted a photo on your camera, computer, USB drive, or anywhere else? What you might not know is that you can usually restore those pictures—even from your camera’s memory stick.

Windows tries to prevent you from making a big mistake by providing the Recycle Bin, where deleted files hang around for a while—but unfortunately it doesn’t work for external USB drives, USB flash drives, memory sticks, or mapped drives. Luckily there’s another way to recover deleted files.

Pentax starts new camera teaser campaign
By PR admin | Published: April 23, 2011

At a Chinese trade show, Pentax showed a teaser of an upcoming camera, covered by a black cloth. Reportedly, the new product is suppose to be ”more important” than a regular point and shoot camera. Pentax is expected to release two new interchangeable lenses compact cameras this summer, one will be mirrorless (NC-1) and the other will be SLR type (Auto 110 digital).

The Pentax NC-1 mirrorless camera will have a 14MP 1/2,33″ sensor with a 5.6x crop factor and HD h.264 video recording capabilities. The camera will be initially sold as one lens kit. Some of the rumored lenses are 8.5mm f/1.9 and 5-15mm f/2.8-4.5. The Pentax NC-1 will have also a flash hot shoe. Expected release date is end of May, 2011.

In addition, there will be also a new Pentax RZ-18 Optio compact camera with a swivel screen.

Now that the light is so much better, I am ok with my K10 at least until October/November, by which time the K5 will undoubtedly be cheaper, and there will be myriad exotic new models on the market.

Unfortunately, to me it seems increasingly uncertain whether Pentax can continue their plucky competitive fightback with their strategy seemingly floundering on all fronts.

To recap this was to restore profitability/slash overheads by sacking large swathes of the workforce and transforming themselves largely into packagers of third party technology.

However, the debacle around firstly the K5 sensor stains and secondly the front focusing business starkly illustrates the way in which the gutted organisation is not only incapable of adequate pre-launch quality control, but is also unable to respond to problems that subsequently emerge in a timely fashion.

The financial risk of having to cover overheads is reduced in business plan terms, but the real world execution risk is much greater, albeit with the monetary impact now obscured by recent financial reporting changes that mean Hoya no longer provides even barebones commentary on Pentax’s camera businesses.

Separately I have not only considered the D7000, I actually nipped into PC World the other night for a hands on. Nice camera, but much bigger than I’d ideally want. Another factor I considered was that without a battery of DA * lenses I could buy similar Tokina glass at a fraction of the equivalent Pentax price. But it turns out that since I last looked, Pentax prices have come back significantly from what I remember and are no longer anywhere near as expensive relatively.

In other words this is just another failure of the much discussed price hike strategy, that illustrates the extent to which Pentax - as a bit player - are not masters of their own destiny.

I scrapped AVG Internet Security only last week - having used it for 5 years or so - and now have just MSE and WinPatrol (plus my Router firewall).

I have a powerful quad core computer with lots of memory, but to my surprise have already noticed a quite significant uplift in performance, due to much better internet/network speeds; presumably AVG was very slow in scanning traffic.
