1919 was a significant year.

In this year both Pentax and Leeds United were started.

It would have been more accurate to say when the Asahi Optical Co started. The first time they made something called a Pentax was around 1957 and it of course refers to the first mass market SLR with a fixed pentaprism viewfinder. (I know Contax got there first).

Isn't that where they got the name Pentax from? Combining pentaprism and Contax?

The name Pentax came from Zeiss-Ikon Dresden circa 1957 see the bottom of this page.
