Right, all you blokes. Leave Mr. Expert alone. I for one am busting to see the results of that magnificent lens. Then maybe I can sell my overflowing bag of old Pentax, Sigma and Tokinas and put some money in the bank for the next piece of Chinese plastic crap that oozes from a dodgy ebay vendor.

Kindest regards,

Then when you turn it back on you can carry on shooting for ages...albeit without live view (K-7 btw)
Same here.

Here's my two bobs worth. I've just bought a K7, when I was all fired up for a K-r. The K7 was only marginally more expensive than the K-r (as a grey import), and I'm glad I took the chance on it. I've now got a top-spec camera which I may never fully utilize, yet the K-r would have been another "entry-level" camera to me, albeit far superior to my old K100D Super. The build quality, Weather sealing, fantastic smooth shutter and huge feature list have potentially offered me years of photo opportunities I never had with my trusted K100D Super. Go with the best you can afford, I'd say. Whether it's a K7 or newer K5 at almost twice the price, you won't be disappointed.

I've just bought a K7, and had to update the firmware from v1.0 to v1.11. Maybe it's been sitting in the box for two years. Anyway, now I have to learn how to drive the thing. The K100D Super was ready to go, out of the box. The K7 seems to be in need of 'tweaking' before it can reach it's full potential. As I explained to a work colleague, the K100D Super was like a Toyota, all sorted right off the showroom floor, but without too many bells and whistles. The K7 is like a F1 racecar straight out of the factory, without all the pre-race setups.

Hi Jo, and welcome. I've just done the exact same upgrade as you. Sold the K100D Super and got a new K7. I shot the kid's soccer today and noticed the colours seem a bit muted. On a positive note, the K7 is a beautiful thing to hold, and that shutter!!!

Everybody is telling that such type of photos almost imossible to get with Pentax gear:
"Everybody" presumably refers to Canikon snobs? Anyway, welcome to the forum. I'm sure the K7 is more capable than most of the competition when it comes to photographing anything at all.

Thanks.
As I said I got an offer of a K-7 for a good price ($625), could also get a K-R instead I think.
I don't shoot much in manual mode (normall shutter or aperture mode) but at least I have the two dials for if/when I start using it more.

The way I see it I can always sell the K-7 if I'm not happy with it in low light (but then again I have a 30mm f1.4 lens and 17-50mm f2.8 lens) and buy a K-R. A bit of a pain but I'm intreged by the K-7, the upper lcd panel.
My lenses aren't waterproof so I suppose the waterproofness of the K-7 is usless for me?
I'm paying for it today, will update when I've played around with it (mid June)
Cheers,
Pa.
This is exactly the problem I'm facing at the moment. I've got the K100D Super on ebay as we speak, and come Friday, I'll have enough put away for a new K-r at a local store($620AUD). Then I have a look at ebay and find new K7's from Hong Kong for $850AUD, which is not much extra. I too like the top LCD panel and extra rugged build of the top-spec camera, but I'm still not sure which way to go. K-r or K7? K7 or K-r?

That's a ripper! If only I knew what 'focus stack' meant.

EDIT: just read the other thread, now I know what it means.
I'll give it a try.
