If you go for the x suffix, however, you are competing with collectors and demand exceeds supply (certainly of good to go examples). The real bargains are now the MZ series. I recently picked up a pristine MZ-7 for £15 from ebay, a compatible 28-80 Pentax auto lens also cost £15 - so usable combo for 30quid. This for a camera that cost in the region of £300 when new. Gotta love superseded tech!

This was taken on Gold 200 in late evening on mid-summer day this year. (ME Super Koboron 300mm lens)
I get mine (24 exp rolls) from Poundland for ... I forget the price but I'll post if I remember
It works for me, this is a high res scan but unedited although I dont have to do much colour correction ever, some times exposure.

Well, got it done at the weekend!! This is how:
Take a micropoint soldering iron (free of solder) and place it on the head of each of the 2 screws that hold the metal plate to the plastic cover for about a minute. Take care not to slip and damage the plastic.
Then place the assembly in a freezer for 10 minutes.
Try the screw with a precision screwdriver if still tight repeat process until successful. One screw came off first time the second needed another cycle.
Whole assembly now refitted to the P30

After half a film shooting, my recently obtained P30's advance lever went floppy, then parted company from the assembly. The retaining screw has worked loose but looks ok. However I can't fix the xxxxing thing as the 2 tiny screws that hold the metal backplate to the plastic lever arm won't budge under normal pressure from an instrument screwdriver. Has anyone had this problem and more importantly is there a simple solution?

Now does anyone have a spare in black, I lost mine last Sunday somewhere in Greenwich while taking riverscapes. Any assistance gratefully acknowledged.

I bought a SFX off e-bay some months ago and tried to set it up last night for use this weekend. I don't have an AF lens for it so was using a Sigma KA I have. The film won't load despite the motor engaging, the cogs move about 3mm. The CENTIC display won't show mode selection unless the back is open and no information is displayed through the viewfinder. No battery warning shows in the CENTIC, but could the problem be due to low battery charge? All suggestions gratefully received

Thanks Sean

Yes I am going to hold onto it for now, I am tempted to get a digital body to try the lens but don't think I would use it enough to justify it

Middle of page 2 of the thread, headline 'OP tantalises lens junkies then goes Gollum on the item!' Do like the suggestion about the role of film and a battery though

If you go that way aim for the P30T (or N?) rather than the plain P30. The T version allows you to use Av mode, P or metered manual while the original is either P or metered manual, which is a bit of a pain with pre A-series lenses.

Providing nothing was forced after the shutter jammed it's sometimes possible to unstick it with a strategic squirt of lighter fluid. I have an unusual ME which came to me jammed and has since gone through a roll of film with no problems. If anything was forced then something will now be bent or twisted internally and a professional service would be needed.
Exactly where should I attempt to squirt the lighter fuel or elec component spray-lease etc? Picture of appropriate orifice please

Bit of a lag since the thread started but I've done a lot of e-baying in the last year so thought I'd just share my experience and views
ME Super, black (ca £35) - came with 1:2 pentax prime. Purchased in Dec 09, ran 7 rolls through (back to back comparison use with my K1000) and it suffered a jammed shutter at the end of a roll in August. Awaiting a trip to Harrow
P30 (£8.50 delivered -Sept 10)Jammed when loading first roll. Also Harrow bound.
Spotmatic SPII (£32 -Oct 10) Seems excellent awaiting return of first roll from processing.
SFX (£45 with 2 lenses and a 2x telecon- Oct 10)Lenses are great including the 80-300 I used for one of the rally shots I posted last month, camera seems fine -all functions operating as intended. Going to give it first use in 2 weeks time.
MZ60 (£25 -Nov 10) As for the SFX, going to run it in February for first roll with my £23 auto Sigma 70 - 210
ME Super -Chrome (£27) Bought Oct 10, used in November 10 for 2x 36 shot rolls, excellent condition, worked fne with pleasing results.
In short if you're buying a body from e-bay in offered 'good condition' and don't pay more than £40 delivered and then give it a CLA with a trusted provider (if use reveals the need) you've got the best of all worlds. I'd say set yourself a limit (inclusive of delivery charge which can vary alamingly) and be patient, there are some great deals to be had, I don't regret any of my purchases, even the P30 which when repaired will be a great 35mm for less than £75 bought and CLA'd
