off to see the Albion Band Christmas gig on thursday. I might have some new (old) christmas songs ringing in my ears by then!

By any chance in York? I saw them at the Early Music Centre about 8 years ago and an excellent start to the festivities they were too. Have a good one. I was at the Pogues gig in London on Thursday night and the 'Fairytale' 2000 voice karaoke was as heart warming as ever. Good gig but the cracks in Shane's plaster look like they're too big for any more polyfilla, don't think I'll go to see them any more much as I love their stuff.

Christmas shopping find, UK - Kodak Ultramax 400 asa (36) is available in Poundland for ...guess how much... Beats the 200 asa (24) that was their only previous available offering (also still on the shelves) in to a cocked hat.

Really like the composition of no1, the position of the shafts 'invite' you in to the whole of the shot. Lighting reveals the different textures, particularly the brickwork, very well.
Echo the previous comment about lightening the foreground of no2, something I have difficulty with.

Regarding slower shutter speed attempts the 2 shots below were forced on me by dusk falling last June at Ypres.

ME Super with the Pentax prime 50mm f2 lens and 2x telecon, iso800 lumo film. Setting on auto with app wide open gave a shutter speed of 1/250, good enough with the panning. Image uncropped - I stepped back a bit to get the framing.

The following evening with more tree shadow I took this, glowing discs a bonus, same set up as above. Would the smaller app available with iso 1600 made for a sharper image cos they look too soft to me. This one is cropped.

The shutter speed used seems to have been high as it has frozen pretty much all (if not all) of the action/ movement, to me though this would not be an issue
Thanks for the comment, I'm trying to work at movement and feel. The Stratos was taken at 1/1000 while the Renault (going slower anyway) was 1/500. Now I've started using faster films and have the depth of field sorted I'm going to start experimenting with 1/250 and 1/125. Incidentally both the above were panned.

2 more come to mind: Bridges of Madison County (they're what's being photographed) and Road to Perdition where Jude Law's hit man character is also a freelance photographer who shoots (both ways geddit?) murder victims, sometimes ensuring they do die, if still breathing, before taking his shot!

If you are going to Camden Town (Camden is the borough but CT is the place of interest) you can either walk a short distance to Regents Park and see the early 18th century crescents (also canals and the London Zoo)or take a bus to Parliament Hill Fields. You can take a 10 minute walk up Parliamment Hill for some fine panoramas of the whole of London. As for Mogwog's info re,gay cruising that happens a lot further over to the north of the attached Hampstead Heath. Take a 200mm with you in case you spot George Michael (recently liberated local resident)

3 days of the Condor - Faye Dunaway / Robert Redford. On the run from the CIA he takes her hostage at a ski-wear shop. She's a photographer who's gallery of b&w prints is used for cut away during the implausable, later that same day, rumpy pumpy scene.

Finally joined after lurking for some time. Despite having been a Pentax owner for 23 years only felt like I'd 'arrived' on getting my Spotty last week. Lots to learn about composition and lighting and currently desperate to get a F1.4 prime (K or m42).
As it's November I shall be out in Wales next week for the WRC round and in 'the Norf' a fortnight later for the Roger Albert Clark Historic Rally.
Also a 3 day 'dash' cruise on the QM to Cherbourg next week - so lots to shoot, expect to do 7 or 8 36 exp rolls during the month.
