As for Norton 2009 it seems to be totally unobtrusive unless you ask it a question and to have a very small footprint so that's good. I used it some years ago but found recent versions to be so bloated they affected the speed of the PC. I'll know better next week if it's OK but I'm optimistic. I think they listened to their users which is unusual and responded to Kaspersky which was the alternative I was considering.
I'm still none the wiser why Silky would access the Internet.
Geez - modem? Pete get broadband or are you referring to an ADSL modem in which case I doubt teh light would register such a short burst of communication.!
Mike
Not only does it embed itself all over the HDD, but it misses half the Viruses and Trojans!
AVG is super and it's free!
I've used it for a number of years and I recommend it to anyone!

I am about to buy anither external hard drive, there was a good write up in FEB issue of 'Digital SLR Photography'.
I fancy the Freecom 500Gb or the Lacie 500GB, but one is heat sync and the other fan cooling.
I presume the heat sync will be quieter than the fancooler, but are there any other considerations to take in regards these differences?
All comments gratefully received.
Lilly
Have you looked at Western Digital?

Then Windows 95, then Windows 98, then Windows ME, (note we have now dropped the numbers and are now on letters,) then Windows 2000( back to numbers),some companies are still using this, then we jumped to XP, (I'm using XP Pro).
In each case, Microsoft rushed the new Operating System onto the market before all the bugs were sorted out, hence the "Service Packs",I have loaded service pack 3 into my O/S.
Every time a new O/S comes out, we are left to scrabble about for the new drivers to run our printers and scanners, as the new O/S, requires it's own unique drivers.
My tip is stick with your present O/S, if it works for you, and does what you want, and the time to change, is when Microsoft decide to no longer support the O/S you're using!

In my opinion;
You brought what you believed to be a discrepancy to the sellers attention at the time of purchase, this shows you had no intent on getting the goods at a lower price. The seller told you that the price they stated at the time of purchase was correct.
Would they refund you if you paid more for a sale item after leaving the shop?
You were not dishonest in your actions as you questioned the price and have since contacted them over this.
You chose your goods as the purchaser, the seller stated their price for those goods, you asked that to be verified. What more can you do? To me its sounds like you kept to your side of the contract entered into and they are going back on theirs.
I think I would keep the equipment and point out the above points to them if they should contact you and they should except the mistake is theirs. It sounds like the assistance needs some one to one training.
Though I do think it would be pushing it to get a revised receipt and claim the cash back from Pentax on top.
IT IS THE DEALER'S FAULT, NOT OGGY'S!

Would a FLOOD of entries from irked Canon/Nikon
owners from http://www.infoborder.com be OK
Just a sufficient number to make it hard for people to
actually find the Pentax pics.

Was this a "Pentax Pro" dealer, how much did you pay for the DA 55-300. If it was factored into the price at more than £195, then you have been had.
If you were supplied with the wrong lens, the DA 16-45mm instead of the DA 18-55mm II, by the salesperson, then it is the fault of the dealer, who ultimately should take issue with their sales staff and not you.
If you get a negative response from the dealer, I would,
1.Contact Pentax.
2.Complain to the local trading standards office.

I got my cashback yesterday (credited to my bank account) However I didnt get it all!
Either the cashback for my 50-135 will be credited seperately or Pentax have shortchanged me
I finally got around to writing to Pentax, posted the letter monday and got a phone call from Pentax this morning apologising for the error and saying my account would be credited with the shortfall in around three days I'm well pleased with the service.
Three cheers for Pentax, I still find it hard to beleive that my SMC DA 55-300mm only cost me £55.00

The reason he was blamed for the accident is because he took off with inoperative fuel gauges, even after having confirmation by the tech dept. that he had enough fuel. If he hadn't taken off, he would still have been in trouble, with his employer that time, because the plane wouldn't have made it's next "rendez-vous", with the correspondence and so on. If nobody had made mistakes with the stick gauges, he would have made it to Vancouver without problem and the company (Air Canada) would have been very happy, because, even if the plane was flying illegally, they still would have made money out of it. The pilot was blamed by the Dept. of Transport, but the employer, who told him to go anyway, was not held partly/jointly responsible. Of course, they could afford better lawyers...

Sorry if this seems a daft question, but what are you aiming for when you take a picture?
Are you trying to record something faithfully, or are you trying to produce a piece of art?
To give you a little information, I have for most of my life been an engineer. I deal with facts and rules and appreciate it when problems are that simple. I have no artistic bent or talent.
Another of my hobbies is Hifi. Here, I face a similar dilemma. Am I trying to reproduce an accuratecopy of the original sound or am I trying to produce a sound I like? Paradoxically, I tend toward the latter.
What are you trying to achieve by taking a photo?
A photograph is an instant captured by the mind's eye, and recorded by the camera.
It could be a landscape, or a portrait, or just something extraordinary, that the photgrapher wishes to record.
It might not appeal to some, but to others it may be stunning.
Some portraits are real "works of art", the difference being, that the "artist",has used a camera, instead of brushes and paints, but never the less, it's just as artistic.
So I would say that if a scene, or a subject, pleases, or interests you, capture it, as it may be gone in an instant, but you have the ability to capture it for ever.
And being Digital you can always erase it, at your leisure!
