Is this any way for the President of Pentax Imaging (USA) Ned Bunnell to carry on
Well if you check out the image quality of his pics (shot between 200 and 400 iso) you see why.
I have yet to see a Pentax compact with well controlled noise - our W60 is absolutely abysmal even at 100 iso. That Leica's images are possibly better than the K10D!

Maybe he has his hands tied at Pentax and he wants to make a point...
I don't believe we were questioning Leica or Pentax quality, the point we are trying to make is that it's a bit silly to promote another manufactures products over the net, when in fact you are the are the US President of Pentax!

Rather like Landrover CEO, saying how good the Nissan Patrol is!

Where's the Brand Loyalty then?

If Ned Bunnell wants to use Leicas, fine but it's a bit silly to spout about it over the net.

Is he saying that Pentax products are not good enough for him to use, although Pentax are silly enough to employ him as their US President?

Hello Lilly,
If your PC has not had Windows XP installed using NTFS and and your HDD's set up as NTFS, this could be the problem!
XP is designed to use the NTFS system, and although it might work, it wont work efficiently if your HDD's are not using NTFS!
I think you can check if the Passport is NTFS by finding it in My Computer, Right click on the Passport drive then Properties.
It will mention FileSystem: NTFS - both my USB drives are NTFS
Close that properties window
Then locate Local drive C: in My Computer
Right click properties
Does that mention File system: NTFS (or FAT16 is that right?)

If the drive C: is not NTFS then Roscoe may well be right and you'll have an 'issue'

Mike
Absoloutely right, let's all hope Lilly's O/S was set up as NTFS!

Thank you Lilly, glad it was helpfull and no worries about the 3 topics running

You also posted also in the other topic but will combine them into one here.

The WD studio is formatted for MAC but you can easly chance that so that it works on Windows so no worries there. You simply need to Format the disk to another kind of sytem file. MAC use HFS+ and Microsft use NTFS

Now about the connections, there is a nice table here link
if you have normall firewire, USB2 would be faster but like Shim said you can buy PCI cards with eSATA that you can connect to your motheroard.
eSATA card you can also save money like Pete said and get the cable I showed you link but that won't be Plug & play like he said

To give you some times, your backup of 75GB (76 800MB) will take theoratically;
USB2 = 21 minutes
Firewire 400 = 26 minutes
Firewrie 800 = 13 mintues
eSATA = 4.5 minutes
Like I said these are theoratical numbers, so it will take some longer in the real world.
I have purchased the WD Passport 320GB from Amazon which arrived today, after reading the reviews on amazon, it was recommended to delete all the SW especially the WD Sync Sw that came with it if you just want to use it for an EHD, which I do.
I plugged it in and TG did not automatically download any SW. Tried to copy over a folder to test and no probs, but wd not let me delete said folder.
I am not very au fait with these things - it has been suggested that I just format the WD Passport EHD via my Windows XP converter FAT32 to NFTS which will make life a lot simplier, this seems logical - I am correct in doing this?

PS) if I do format it, do I check boxes 'Quick Format' or 'Enable Compression' ot neither? please?

Hello Don,
As a rank beginner, who is really not qualified to pass any comment,
I will none the less take the plunge, and say that the canvas effect does not work for me, and the picture seems fuzzy.
The composition to me is very good, but I feel it needs to be sharp.

But then who am I to comment?

Kindest regards,

Peter

ARGH!!!

I was just looking for a 4gig SDHC card, the proprosed new cards seem WAY too big!

It's bad enough when a hard drive fails but loosing 2TB on an SD card sized device would be devastating!
I use a Dane Elec 16 Gig SDHC card, which works well in my K20D.
This gives 814 shots!(RAW+)
Don't worry be happy

Well that's all the cashback stuff posted off. If the weather improves this afternoon, i'll leave work early and get some shots in.

Iceblinker - yes that's a good point - it's just a shame that the path to my favourite spot on that hill is'nt weather-sealed though!

Not a good idea going up there in near dark light and raining, as it's next to a quarry and get's quite muddy/slippy.

If access was much much easier there's no doubt that I would have gone this morning.
Yes bones can be repaired on the NHS(eventually), cameras are expensive to repair, and The NHS does not want to know!

Haven't used SRS, have used Park Cameras, very good, would recommend them!

Stick to a Pentax Pro dealer and you wont go far wrong!

Hi Vikram,

I received both my cashbacks after only about 3 weeks, but I suspect there is a large number of claims waiting to be procesed, as it's getting near the expiry date.

Cheques seem to get posted far quicker than transfers to bank accounts.

Be patient,

Peter.
