Just had our beautiful old dog, Timber, put to sleep.

Why does doing the right thing make you feel so shitty?

Huge sympathies Gwyn, I have had to do it twice, most recently twelve years ago. I buried my nose in her fur and can still recall the lovely doggy smell all these years later but just can't face having to go through it again so now dogless.

One of the most frequent caveats from commentators of the K-1 is the lack of a wide range of full frame lenses in K-mount, so as it is a rainy bank holiday Monday I decided to see what is currently available on the market now:
Pentax - 12 no.
Sigma - 7 no.
Tamron - 5 no.
Samyang - 7 no.
Irix - 1 no. (2 variants)
Schneider - 3 no. (a bit esoteric these)
That is a total of 35 lenses in a range of primes and zooms, tilt-shift and macro, from 14mm up to 500mm.

I should have mentioned that the image sync app also allows the main controls to be used remotely as well. I can see this being especially useful for studio work including macro when sharp focus is critical.

I tend to use live view zoomed in or the focus confirmation bleep!
Agreed. I'm very keen to hear what the viewfinder is like on the new FF K-1, as I've never been satisfied with the optical viewfinder on APS-C DSLRs, when compared to the massive and bright film viewfinders, and their associated focussing screen inserts.

I've used liveview, with focus peaking and digital zoom for most manual focussing work, and would love an EVF so I could do this with the camera supported more firmly in the traditional stance, instead of hanging out in front of my face like an iphone.
The K-1 viewfinder is larger than the K50 so an improvement, as is the rear screen. However a fantastic improvement in quality can be achieved using the wifi connection to the image syc app on an ipad - live view but really large! Plus remote shutter operation. Don't know how it will be in bright daylight though. I too miss the film era split screen though. One oddity is that using wifi both the viewfinder and rear screen are black, to go back to using them you have to turn off the wifi on the camera or the link in the ipad settings.

I should be out taking pictures, but a suspicious puddle of water from under the 4 year old dishwasher means I am having to explain why I didn't take out the 5 year extended warranty! You know how it goes: "well you managed to find the money for a new camera/lens/tripod (take your pick) but it's a pity you couldn't .......etc"
Appliance cover is a waste of money, just think yow much you've saved over the years by not insuring stuff, buy a new dishwasher and I bet your still on top,
My argument exactly! I have just booked a repair so let's hope that is cheaper than a new one.

I do too, but just wish he would get on with it! The K-1 brochure says the tilt screen is designed the way it is to maintain the camera's optical axis no matter how it is turned; that's very clever engineering but does anyone know why that's a good thing?
