I have a Cokin P series set of filters - 3x soft grad, 3x hard grad, 3x full ND - which are compact enough to stay with the mount in the bag, and although they don't get used much they take such little space it is no sacrifice - another advantage over round ones. These fit smaller lenses like the 28-105mm and are resin, but they feel like glass and a set of three is around £59.00. I have since bought a larger set for the 15-30 mm f2.8 but with the adaptor and mount take so much room they are only taken when I know they are needed. Take a look at Premier Ink And Photographic based in Leamington Spa for best prices.

I am corrected, never seen round grad filters! Obvious problem is you cannot control where the change comes, always halfway down so your horizon has to be across the middle too. I'm with jeallen01 cannot be bothered with too much time in Lightroom but once you have screwed on a square filter mount it is much quicker to change filters or add another like a full ND filter than screwing/unscrewing round ones. And of course you just need one system with different mount rings to suit the lenses. Word of caution on the 10-20mm Sigma, you risk vignetting if the filter isn't big enough so best if possible to try in a shop first.

Peter and his wife, six ponies and two dogs fetched up on the verge near my house yesterday, and seemed happy to chat for a while last night. His occupation is building and decorating horse-drawn caravans in traditional scrollwork, and he proudly showed me examples on his ipad, whilst his wife (I didn't get her name) decorates buckets etc in the flowery barge tradition, as well as lucky horseshoes. As the light was poor I went back early in the morning to ask if he minded that I took some photos, just as he was coming back from foraging wood for the fire to brew tea. They left leaving barely a trace.Comment Image

I was given details of a music festival with a horse-drawn camp, called The End of the World Festival, at Hill House Farm on the Fosse Way CV35 0AA from 25-27 August if anyone is interested.

What do you mean, screw in? Grad filters are all square and slide into a holder, that's the only way to adjust them. Take a look at Cokin Nuances, they are glass in your price range, and get a decent filter holder to protect them! I have a holder with credit card-like pockets but the filters stick against the plastic, a lined holder like the Lee Filters one is much better.

I echo that, you only get one chance and you have really come up with some lovely images that convey the love and happiness this couple have. And none of those obviously set-up shots that appear on some websites. Well done, is this a new career move?

I don't know what it is like up north but it's quite warm down here! Anyway they have a better chance than inside a hoover bag.

I really hate the big house spiders we get this time of year, use a spider-catcher from Lakeland which works a treat and if you can bear it gives you a chance of a proper look before putting it out. And I'll swear the one that was put out yesterday is the same one as the day before!

Just watched a Thomas Heaton video of an Iceland shoot and it reminded me of a recent incident which even now as I think back sends a chill through me. I was photographing a sunset from a high point with a tripod and was careful to keep away from a sheer drop right behind me, but became so absorbed in watching the scene unfold, taking shots, stepping back and so on that by chance I looked around and realised with a shock I had completely forgotten about the danger behind; I could so easily have taken a couple more steps back and that would have been fatal or life-changing. Anyone else had close shaves?

I am seriously impressed you managed to take all this kit on a family holiday! I remember when we had a caravan, three kids and a dog the car struggled to get out the drive let alone reach anywhere remote. Even now I have to compromise, do I take the large tripod, compact one or both?
