Peter the traveller

Peter and his wife, six ponies and two dogs fetched up on the verge near my house yesterday, and seemed happy to chat for a while last night. His occupation is building and decorating horse-drawn caravans in traditional scrollwork, and he proudly showed me examples on his ipad, whilst his wife (I didn't get her name) decorates buckets etc in the flowery barge tradition, as well as lucky horseshoes. As the light was poor I went back early in the morning to ask if he minded that I took some photos, just as he was coming back from foraging wood for the fire to brew tea. They left leaving barely a trace.



I was given details of a music festival with a horse-drawn camp, called The End of the World Festival, at Hill House Farm on the Fosse Way CV35 0AA from 25-27 August if anyone is interested.

A very charming tale that I missed first time round, it was a disrespectful spammer who brought it back! And what a charming tale it is, just how an interaction with a traveller and his wife should be. It sounds as though it is little different to a scene from days long past, when a traveller might arrive at a village, spend a few days and then move on to the next village leaving satisfied customers but barely a trace that they had been there.
