Nice photos, Nigel, their expressions say it all: "Oh no, Dad's at it again!" Given there was reasonable daylight would not a reflector have done the job?

Strolling on a Cornwall beach at sunset I stopped to interrupt a photographer peering into his tripod mounted camera. Afterwards the conversation with Gill went:
"What were you talking to him about?"
"His camera"
"Is it like yours?"
"No, it's a Hasselblad"
"What's the difference?"
"About £20,000"
"No, absolutely not, I know what you are like ....." etc, etc

no I will not use it as a garage, my wife wanted to create a little "taverna" out of it, with oven wood, but I took over it, it's miiiine . Why would I need an insulated door?
Apart from the cold and droughts I was getting dust and debris blowing in so difficult to keep clean. I tried a draughtseal from B&Q on the up and over door but then it wouldn't close, but you might like to try that. The replacement has completely solved the problem. Is there a side door? If so then you could erect a timber framed screen behind the main door.

I would have thought no problem with the floor space, you have to work with what you have. The height may be a limitation, but important to get it insulated if not already. Will you replace the door with infill? I once had a studio with a bespoke double glazed screen and door in place of the garage door, or if that is a problem then there are options for replacing the door with an insulated type. From a local garage door supplier I currently have a pair of hinged insulated metal doors with gaskets which are most effective and don't look out of place, there was insufficient headroom for a segmented door which is the other option.

I have always used the sd card in the computer but now I have a Mac the slot is stupidly around the back, so I thought I would try the USB cable instead. None of the cables in my oddments box had the right combination of connectors at each end so then I remembered the K50 came with a USB cable included. If the entry level body came with a cable how come one cannot be bundled with the K1? Anyhow, guess what, that didn't fit either! Different sockets in the cameras! Back to square one but with an sd card reader on a dongle so I can plug in without pulling the computer around.

Crop mode on the K-1 gives us a 15 MP image, whereas the K-3 and K-3 II will give us 24 MP. I'm of the opinion that if APS-C is needed, then an APS-C body will be a better bet.
I agree there is no point in having full frame if you don't have the lenses to take full advantage. However it would be interesting to compare a cropped K1 image against an APS-C body using the same lens.

I think that he will come to regret being encouraged/pressed into publishing a book of photos so early, it appears that whilst his parents have useful contacts they are probably not the right ones to give the lad helpful advice in this field. Penguin books have shamelessly exploited his name for their own ends and I cannot imagine that any of the fashion photographers would have recommended a Hasselblad or a Leica as a learning tool, that shouts more like just buying the best for the lad without understanding the subject. Like buying a learner driver a Porsche. So maybe a film camera is Brooklyn's choice rather than his parents', ok very cool but nonetheless an encouraging sign of independence.

Well the new mac is up and running, spent yesterday downloading some software and finding that mac versions of software have differences compared to the windows versions. I shall have to buy a manual rather than stumbling about in my usual fashion. For a product from a company that puts design at its core there are a couple of irritating design issues like the USB sockets all at the back so that you have to turn the computer round every time you plug something in, and a rechargeable mouse which cannot be used when plugged in because the socket is in the base rather than the front! Anyhow, loved the way it connected to peripherals instantly and photos look fabulous on the large retina screen so worth it despite the niggles.

PS you really don't appreciate what a modern digital camera can do until you see the results on something like this, very impressive.

Aesthetically number 3 works best for me, the seagull is an added bonus.
