Thanks for posting that, Liam.

Prieni, we won't bother with a "waves breaking" competition because you'd be certain to win it. Magnificent shot(s).

G
Bugger, should have kept quiet and wait for this theme to come up

Thanks George. These waves were stunning and it was difficult to get duff pictures there...

Thanks Liam,

it was an amazing view. Personally I like this one the best:

They were shot on Dead Man's Beach on Ascension Island.

johna,

you can't. You have to put your images on a hosting site like the mentioned PicasaWEB, Photobucket or any other site that allows to use direct links to the pictures.

Hope that helps,
Prieni

Apparently so. The link is quite cryptic, so it would be difficult to guess a link to an unlisted picture. It certainly isn't Fort Knox but good enough for everyday use (after all, you do put it on a Google server...)

Good to know that this works, though.

Cheers,
Prieni

Well, let's see:

If you can see it then the answer is yes. I can see it, but that might be because I own it... Please let us know.

BTW: Since it is downsized by Picasa Web Albums it's loosing a bit of sharpness (the original is a bit bigger).

Good idea!

Photobucket:
1. Log in to your account and locate the picture you want to link.
2. Click on the box under the picture labeled "IMG code"
3. Switch to the PentaxUser site and start your post.
4. Press Ctrl+v to link to your image (Apple users use Apple+v ??)

The link in the edit window will look like this (without the spaces)

Absolutely true. I got this link from IEEE Spectrum magazine and they described the mobile phone one.

He took 400 old "cell phones", put them in a wooden frame and shot them from above. Then he "stirred" the phones and took one again... and again... and again...
About 200 shots he took, then he worked for two weeks on the borders of these shots to make some tiles. Then he placed the tiles, 1065 in total, so that the repeated pics have good distance and the result looks visually pleasing.
It's not described but I guess he then needed to do the "stitching" work on the edges of the tiles.
Then he sent the 1 gig file to a New York printer (60-inch wide Canon inkjet), mounting, framing and Bob's your uncle.

Well, any plans for the weekend?

Stumbled across a link to an impressive photography project by Chris Jordan, called "Running the Numbers". Have a look at
http://www.chrisjordan.com/
and click on the first item, "Running the Numbers".

Looks good here on my works screen, still detail in the dark areas. My experience tells me that it will look almost the same at home.

I hitched a lift in a lorry once. The driver knew 62 words, too. They all started with F.

I had a bosun on a research cruise who must be a relative of that lorry driver. I quite admire the ability to use the f-word as main, modal and auxiliary verb, adjective, noun and every other conceivable word.
He also knew another word (that was new to me): dubry
Although it also is very variable in it's use it is a bit more limited than the f-word.
Can't possibly comment on how many words he knew as I only remember hearing about a handful of others beside the two already mentioned.

Of course I also had to look up "prolixity". The German translation is, as one would expect, peripatetic (yes, I looked that one up as well): "Weitschweifigkeit" That's a whopping 17 characters opposed to the measly 9 in English. For this word, however, I find the German version quite fitting...
