Linking Images Into Posts

Part One - PicasaWeb

Find the picture you want.

I am using this photo as an example:

http://picasaweb.google.com/tyr.francoperlak/FieldLife/photo#5091452690074241218

Select the size (normally 800px) and c lick the 'Link to this Photo' button on the right.

Copy the contents of the box 'HTML to embed in website'.

It will look something like this:

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/tyr.francoperlak/FieldLife/photo#5091452690074241218"><img src="http://lh4.google.com/tyr.francoperlak/Rqh5PvaVCMI/AAAAAAAAAFk/fXkNGdl74g4/s800/...%20in%20the%20Field%201.jpg" /></a>

I have highlighted the bits you need to remove in red.

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/tyr.francoperlak/FieldLife/photo#5091452690074241218"><img src="http://lh4.google.com/tyr.francoperlak/Rqh5PvaVCMI/AAAAAAAAAFk/fXkNGdl74g4/s800/...%20in%20the%20Field%201.jpg" /></a>

This leaves you with just:

http://lh4.google.com/tyr.francoperlak/Rqh5PvaVCMI/AAAAAAAAAFk/fXkNGdl74g4/s800/...%20in%20the%20Field%201.jpg

Finally you add the image tags to be beginning and the end of that line without the spaces shown below.

Then everyone can see your picture.

Good idea!

Photobucket:
1. Log in to your account and locate the picture you want to link.
2. Click on the box under the picture labeled "IMG code"
3. Switch to the PentaxUser site and start your post.
4. Press Ctrl+v to link to your image (Apple users use Apple+v ??)

The link in the edit window will look like this (without the spaces)

Tyr,

Is it possible to link to a picture in an unlisted Picasaweb album?

If you can see it then the answer is yes. I can see it, but that might be because I own it... Please let us know.

BTW: Since it is downsized by Picasa Web Albums it's loosing a bit of sharpness (the original is a bit bigger).

I can see it fine, so we can take it as meaning anyone can view it if it is linked.

Apparently so. The link is quite cryptic, so it would be difficult to guess a link to an unlisted picture. It certainly isn't Fort Knox but good enough for everyday use (after all, you do put it on a Google server...)

Good to know that this works, though.

Cheers,
Prieni

How do you upload images that are just saved on your PC in My Pictures?
Prieni
Posted 16/04/2008 - 11:19 Link
johna,

you can't. You have to put your images on a hosting site like the mentioned PicasaWEB, Photobucket or any other site that allows to use direct links to the pictures.

Hope that helps,
Prieni

Some sites do not allow yuou to hot link from them. Find out if this is the case beofre you go through getting the HTML right. If the host does not allow it then you will be frustratged and think you are doing it wrong and it could take ages to figure it out as you do not even know to ask the question, "does this site allow you to hot link from images".
Pentax K10D 18-55 Kit Lens, Sigma 70-300, Photoshop CS (for now).

How do you upload a photo to put by your username like those on the left above? What size do they need to be.

Regards

Johna

You are talking about an Avatar. This needs to be a small JPEG or GIF and you can sort this in My Settings>My Profile
