Which of these two photos do you prefer?

I took these photos this evening and I'm not sure which I prefer. Both were taken at the same settings on my K10D and my sigma 135-400mm lens. The settings were 1/250sec, f5.6 and iso 400 and the lens was at 400mm.

I'd go with 1 also - focus is that bit sharper on and around the beak.

How do you find the weight of the 135-400mm Sigma? Do you always use a tripod or also use it hand-held? I had the 170-500mm Sigma and although it was possible to use it hand-held I found it difficult to get stability at the long length (understandably).

I use it handheld if possible because I feel restricted at times when using a tripod. I don't find it too heavy but a bit stiff to zoom!

Robin 1 as well here - just that bit sharper around the robin's beak.

Good pic!

Also better composed in my opinion.

Nice shot but far from perfect That dark shadow across its neck is really distracting, but keep up the good work and you'll eventually get one that really shines. I recently caught a Robin playing tug of war with a worm, unfortunately the Robin decided that he would ruin my shot by keeping his tail behind an intrusive twig, the little varmits dont really deserve all the attention we give them

PS really nice light.

Hi impotentspider,

I agree with your comment. I had thought about PSing out the shadow but I thought what was the point because I would not have been really happy with doing that. I'll endeavour to get the perfect photo!!

Hey, I got a new word..

It's rare to come across a word I haven't heard before, and although obvious from the context I had to look it up.

That's 62 words I know now.

Cheers

Me too. I had to look it up as well. That's the second one I've had from George. Though I can't remember what the other one was offhand...
