What shall I say? Simply stunning!
I also concur with Don's comment, perfect timing.

Not sure if I've shown them here before (search didn't turn up anything but that doesn't mean too much, does it? And with two cruises in quick succession time is becoming a blur...).
It's a little series I did back in June:

If the thing is sitting right on the sensor, and presumably simply casting a shadow on to it, from zero distance or thereabouts, why does the aperture affect it?
Well, it is not sitting right on the sensor. It is sitting on top of the filter (i.e. the surface of the sensor assembly) and therefore a little bit off the sensor. At wide apertures more light can go "around" the sensor, therefore softening the shadow.
So when you take a test shot of a bright area out of focus at aperture 22 or similar you will be surprised what dust specs show up (not that they would pose too much of a problem for real world shots mostly).

No luck here either, Firefox 2. Same error messages.

If anyone is needing some assistance in 'ye goode olde Germany' I'm happy to help.
As with Peter's offer in Spain you can at the same time visit the wonderful Baltic beach resort of Warnemuende. I don't have to rent out rooms or cars, though.

The trouble with theoretical possibilities, is that some of them are bad, so it is tempting for those with power to base policy on them (always for our protection), rather than on the much more mundane, actual reality.
Sounds like the forum is a mirror of the real world then...

Would be asking too much to create a better world in this forum, me thinks.

Thanks!

Looks like I might have made a tactical error in not saving the best till last.

Yes, you're right. The A380 picture is nice, sharp, interesting angle. But if you have seen the first one of your shots it just looks, .... well ... blunt.

Congratulations on that shot! I have to book the Red Arrows sometime soon...

P.S. Just noticed a bug... If you add a smiley after you've typed out your message, it always inserts it at the end of the message, no matter where you've placed your cursor. Off to report it now!
It always did that for me, so no change there then...

And you are right, the heat has receded a bit and this is good. I guess we are getting used to the new style in no time. As it seems the team has ironed out the worst bugs so I didn't get to see them (as I came back from a trip when the worst was over).

good grief, I'm out of the picture for 2 weeks and the world ends!
Yeah, that's what I thought. You spend 5 weeks at sea and when you come back the world (or at least important parts of your world) have changed beyond recognition.

I also thought to first wait a few days before making any judgements about the change being for better or for worse...
