Just an observation, but are we being short changed?

Given the 2/3 or 3/4 image size then why are there not more F2 lenses, why so many F4's when they could be F2.8's?

Interesting discussion.

On my old SLR,I was always looking for a 20 or 21mm for true 'wide angle' with little distortion.

Now with digital, I assume that means getting a 15mm or less. So I guess a 16mm that wide open is true, linear and fast is a good option for all landscape.

On the basis that it is small, light and for most sunny locations ideal, then I have gone for one primarily for travel.

thanks for the info.
I have used the kit lens in some bad weather with no apparent ill effects, but would be nice to have weatherproof lens.
the sugestions to try at a dealer sound like a good option, what should i be looking for specifically?

Try this link to US forum, http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/36080-da-16-50-tes..., where there are some simple tests you can carry out.

If you back up in forum you'll see a bunch more on the 16-50mm.

Given the reported lens issues on the US forum, and as I am also now after a DA* 16-50, my view is to go buy it physically at the dealer shop and try it before walking away.

Motto don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today,

or

just go do it and enjoy life.

Meanwhile now on the learning curve of new K10D, hunting down a 300-400mm lens and then doing some practice before the next trip to go watch some wildlife (Africa this time).

For Don,

"stick a dual or quad core "Prime" imaging engine into the new body and a pelicile mirror please!"

and just how big a battery compartment do you want?

Interesting pics etc.

Having done some wildlife photography, e.g. tigers on safari in India and other animals I have 2 suggestions,

If its action shots etc, then depth of field and 50 to 100mm is a good bet and fast.

If its face/head shot for expressions, mood, smile, chill or anything else the subject has to be showing then 200 to 400 is a good bet, and try to keep to 2.8 to F4, though having said that I do have some good long range shots at F7.

Met with Pentax at the LCE camera show on April 2nd - advised to NOT use any old flash guns - even 20V is too much for a modern digital designed for 5V.

Shame as I wanted to use my old Vivitar 283 - they said that would kill a K20D.

Yes while Pentax says there is an embargo on - there will be a new camera to replace the K10D, and it will sit between K200 and K20D and there will be a new K100 replacement.

When - don't know, but Pentax staff have been told to keep quiet.
