Thanks for that, as Pentax also say the Autofocus function only works with lens that are F4 or faster, and the 150-450mm is F4.5-5.6.
Anyone else tried a HD 1.4x converter and K20D?
Peter
I've had a look at the 1.4X manual and it does not list the K20 as compatible (see scan0001)

However the manual says the 1.4X uses a KAF2 mount (scan0002)

and the K20 camera specifications say "Usable lenses PENTAX KAF2-, KAF-, and KA-mount lenses."

You need someone more technical than I to explain all that. All I can say is, on my K20 it works.
I'm wondering if K20 and older are no longer supported, so are not listed.

I had a go with k20+150-450+HD1.4x and it all seems to work. Camera Auto focused, reported correct aperture and focal length etc

Add the new 1.4x HD TC to the DA*300 they make an epic pairing. These were taken in some pretty poor light, and this way you'll save yourself a fair amount of money

Is the quality of the older lens sufficiently ahead of the newer telephoto that its the prime choice. For me I have the DA* 300mm and DA* 50-135mm so could live with a fixed 400mm lens for those difficult to get shots.

Apologies if this has been covered before, but on the list below it has the 200mm and then the 560mm,

However my DA* 16-50mm is stuck to the front of my K10D and very rarely comes off, if it did then I'd have to go buy a DA* 300mm and that isn't on the cards at the moment.
I will however look at the DA* 50-135mm as that does seem to fill a gap, I have the DA 50-200mm but its not in the same league.

The 100 will give you a greater working distance between you and the subject, which I prefer for outdoors.
The 50 is great for still life subjects which obviosuly can't be 'spooked' by you getting too close - jewellery for example.
That said, your 200-300 range lenses will give you good close-ups of flowers, etc, although not 1:1.
If you're in or close to London pm me; I have the 35, 50 and 100 macros if you want to give them a try.
