Thank you for this. I used my 50-135mm for some flower shots along with flash to throw the background and yes the results were very effective. Thanks for the offer, I am normally in London 1 or 2 days a week so will try and sort out diary.

Just looking at 50mm or 100mm Macro lenses, several second hand ones and can't decide on which would be better - use would be for flowers etc in the garden?

Whatever happens all those lower priced FA lens will become un-affordable overnight.

Thanks for that, as Pentax also say the Autofocus function only works with lens that are F4 or faster, and the 150-450mm is F4.5-5.6.

Anyone else tried a HD 1.4x converter and K20D?

Ah, can you check your manual as well as see if the K20D should be supported, as the previous post would indicate not and I'd love to get the HD1.4X?

Just checked and the HD 1.4x converter doesn't seem to be compatible with my K20D - is there a reason for this?

So given the ability to buy either, putting aside fixed versus telephoto which would you have given the option - for me the use will be wildlife?

Is the quality of the older lens sufficiently ahead of the newer telephoto that its the prime choice. For me I have the DA* 300mm and DA* 50-135mm so could live with a fixed 400mm lens for those difficult to get shots.

Credit to Daronl for an excellent write and real hard evidence on how good Pentax can be when stood up against the opposition. I am always envious of the 'grey lense' owners (Canon) as they look visibly impressive and I am sure that the 300, 400 and 500's do deliver as why else would all the prof's use them.

However my DA* 16-50mm is stuck to the front of my K10D and very rarely comes off, if it did then I'd have to go buy a DA* 300mm and that isn't on the cards at the moment.

I will however look at the DA* 50-135mm as that does seem to fill a gap, I have the DA 50-200mm but its not in the same league.
