Well, the Old Film Bloke has done it again ! Had a message saying I was 'shortlisted' in the Travel Section of the 2007 Professional Photographer Magazine competition and could I send a 'high resolution file' so I had to contact a friend at the club as they wanted 300 dpi at A3 size- the original print was a 10x8" , smaller than A3, so I was told to put in 16" for the long size as I scanned it; it must have worked as I got another message saying I had WON the Travel Section so I went last night Thursday to the Association of Photographers Gallery for the awards and got £2000 of vouchers to spend on Loweprowe, Manfrotto and B+W products in four £500 vouchers ! My lovely little Filipina wifey took this snap of me.

Original taken at the Sinulog Festival, Cebu, Philippines: I went out with the Cebu Images Camera Club members to the stadium where the floats were being judged. I used my LX with 135mm Pentax-M lens, outdated Fuji 100 print film- really struggled as the light was going, will use 400 next time as the light goes very quickly after about 1630 and it's dark by 1800 in the Philippines.

Talking about 'Vuescan'- I WON a free Professional Edition in the Amateur Photographer magazine. Mr Hamrick sent me an e-mail from USA giving me some codes to put it with price at $0 and I managed to do it and have had a go to scan some larger 6x7 trannies which would not fit on my Epson 1650 flatbed, but with the Vuescan they work !

Dan : Well, I found out how to download that Silkypix to my 'Ancient' TIME Computer donated to me and the kids by their 'Rich Aunty Cathy'. It does me for now- it has been set up by a computer expert who repaired it after her Son took parts of it apart, and there is no need for 'Colour Calibration' with those Spyder things as it gives perfect colour balance, and there has never been any viruses or nasties on it .

When I got the K10D the software would not install because I have Windows ME Edition. Now my wife has a Fuji Finepix s9600 the software coming with that WILL work with Windows ME and I am wondering if I install it can I use it to do 'RAW' conversions from PENTAX files from the camera, as surely, the computer is a machine which doesn't know the difference Pentax/Fuji , only worries about lots of 0000 and 1111 signals.

Did you know there used to be a 'Royal'member of the Pentax Club ? When Peter and Liz Cox used to run it Princess Anne used to get a copy of the magazine sent to Buckingham Palace ! I remember seeing HRH on 'Blue Peter' with the famous woman presenter ( whose name escapes me ) on safari in Africa both together laying down poking Pentax Spotmatics with identical ( perhaps HRH had a Gold Plated one ) 200mm SMC f4 Takumars over a log to photograph some ( probably sedated)animals.

dirk 100: well thank you so much for your kind comments- I am really a 'beginner' using digital but I notice the results and make adjustments, for example, if the sun comes out and the light gets contrasty I turn down the 'contrast' setting in the camera. I hope I will get some good results in the newspapers when they are published this week on Friday to make my efforts worthwhile. It is very important to record veterans as their numbers get fewer every year.

The Annual Brentwood Remembrance Parade. I used a fish-eye attachment for the first one, the others are all 18-55mm lens, ISO was 200 and 400.
