It doesn't know what brand the camera is but it will know there is a difference in file format. However, you can't harm anything by trying it.

You could try the free version of Silkypix, which apparently works with Windows ME, and it would definitely support Raw files from your K10D. You can download it from here: http://www.isl.co.jp/SILKYPIX/english/download/

For goodness sake, Peter, Windows ME is ancient, and so, no doubt, is the computer you are using it on.
If you are going to use a digital camera, you need computer software and hardware that were designed for it. You will find your digital experience is improved enormously if you view and edit your pics on a 21st Century computer.
What you are doing is like entering the Tour de France on a Penny Farthing.
It's not as though computers are expensive any more.

On a slightly related note, have the people using Vista found any/many hardware/software issues? Thinking K10D, Raw convertors etc.
Not that I'm considering changing to Vista, but as that's all you seem to be able to get these days (as far as Windows OS's are concerned before Don, Justgetoutandride etc. pipe up ), I was just wondering...

I use Vista Home Premium (64 bit version) and the K10D & Pentax software all works like a charm except the remote suite which can be a little flakey. Vista also runs CaptureOne perfectly (not as fast as the Pentax software though) and my Photoshop 5 that I've carried through from Win98 absolutely flies! On a slightly related note, have the people using Vista found any/many hardware/software issues? Thinking K10D, Raw convertors etc.
Other packages like Gimp, Inkscape and OpenOffice all work well too.

The uptake of Vista amongst corporate bodies has been very slow. It still has far too many problems to be considered seriously. It's a bit like Windows ME - Microsoft seem to bring out a real dog every once in a while. Companies like Dell have realised this and allow customers to "downgrade" to XP.
