I will have a hunt around and see how much I can pick up a K100d or ds for, as by the sounds of it that may be a great one for her to start on.

My thinking was if I got her a Pentax she could use my lenses and my old kit lenses she could have.

As much as £400 at a push, second hand or new, just something she can get to grips with. With my limited advice to help along the way.

My 12 year old wants to take up DSLR photography. I was wondering what everyone would recommend for her to start of with, camera wise. Trying to keep it on a budget.

It didn't on mine, but you don't need to touch the mirror just hover over it doing gentle movements. It worked great on mine. Plus it works great for doing general cleaning of the lenses e.c.t..

I had the same problem not so long ago, but dust had got into the mirror box as well, so I used a Green clean mini vac, I know they are meant for sensors, but if you remove the sensor pad and use the hose it works great.
