My 12 year old wants to take up DSLR photography. I was wondering what everyone would recommend for her to start of with, camera wise. Trying to keep it on a budget.
Pentax K20D, Pentax 16-45, Sigma 50-300, Tamron 70-200 f2.8. Tamron 90 f2.8 macro, The Sigma Bigma.

Nikon D700 ,nikon 14-24mm f2.8, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR.

What's the budget?

As much as £400 at a push, second hand or new, just something she can get to grips with. With my limited advice to help along the way.

there's nothing wrong with 35mm to start with

But maybe a K100D (this is still one of the best starter camera's) or even a d*st

I even regret giving mine away (to my son)

My thinking was if I got her a Pentax she could use my lenses and my old kit lenses she could have.

I kept a reconditioned K100DS which is now used by my 11 year old and 13 year old (it's an easy camera for them to use - in the case of one of them just point and shoot, and in the case of the other learn to go a little further). Means I can also borrow it on occasion when I want to do some IR photography as it's much better at that than the newer bodies.

I will have a hunt around and see how much I can pick up a K100d or ds for, as by the sounds of it that may be a great one for her to start on.

I think you should be able to pick up a K1000D for around £200.00

K-m or K-x to minimise size and weight, otherwise whatever Pentax model you can afford. Second-hand should be fine. They're all interesting and all capable of great results.
