Simon,
I have been admiring your pic's since I first joined this forum (if you will excuse my opinions on waterfalls) and I think that people who think you are using HDR are mistaking perfect exposure, which allows you to process a brilliant finished picture, for jiggery pokery. You've certainly made me think about the exposure of my shots a lot more. I actually tend to expose for the brightest part of the sky now since using RAW I am realising that under exposed parts of the picture can be "lifted" if you know what I mean.

Some people think football is about life and death, but their wrong. It's much more important than that! ( A rough quote from Bill Shankly)
Go to the game.

A fixed focal length gives better results than a zoom, so for wildlife that's what I would go for. Avoid 2X converters is also my advicem, you can usually crop a pictute with sharper results than a converter gives without slowing the lens further. If you aren't bothered about auoto-focus, ther are lots of secondhand bargains to be had.

How did your MBD affect exposure, what adjustments did you need to make?

mxuser,

To early yet to say anything much, except that it is a lot easier to handle than when using extension tubes, because of course you can focus on any distance from infinity down. It's my first macro lens and there are probably a few tricks I need to learn
