That's not an f/1.2 lens but a 1:2 lens (i.e. f/2)
The f/1.2 is huge

That's going to be one very unhappy customer if he was buying it for the lens - which was misrepresented.

But do note that MXV.co.uk have a Japanese K1000 listed at £99 for the body only... so it might not be such a bad deal

Is this some swanky film body or something?

Mike,

Actually this is the simplest K Mount body Pentax ever made - FULLY manual - will operate forever without a battery - which is only used for a light meter.

Thousands and thousands of students in as many photography classes around the world cut their teeth on a 1000.

It was and is a veritable TANK of a camera - virtually indestructable.

I would think in today's world of disposable everything, it symbolizes what Pentax is most proud of, and holds a lot of nostalgia for many folk.

Collectors seek these out.

I think of the 1000 as carrying the Spotmatic tradition into the K Mount era.

Sniff.....

no, but the 50mm A series F1.7 alone will fetch the current price. The presence of the camera body and other junk probably actually pulls down the price he'd get for the lens alone.

It makes no logical sense, but A and F series 50's go for silly money recently. You can buy a new FA 50 1.4 for the price some of the F 50 1.7s go for on Ebay.

And K1000's go for an inflated price because some photography courses actually require one, and they can no longer be bought new. A K1000 in good condition will have both student 'togs and collectors bidding on it, so the price is pushed way up from what the camera is actually worth. Quite often you can get a K2 for less than a K1000 even though the K2 was top of the range and the K1000 the budget model.

Pentax-A 50mm 1.7s have been selling on eBay for about 40 to 50 pounds recently. The prices seem to have gone up a bit since the last time I checked.

There is some sense in getting an F or FA 50mm 1.7 in preference to an FA 1.4. They're smaller and lighter, as well as possibly being sharper at large apertures. Being second-hand doesn't matter if it's still in excellent condition.

I only got a tenner for my P30 body

film bodies just don't sell anymore, most people bidding on a body are actually after the lens. I tried to sell one of my SFXs last year and it got no bids at £5.

I refuse to skip a working camera and you just can't sell them, so I am slowly aquiring a larger and larger collection of old Pentax SLRs. I now have one of every generation since the K1000 except the P series.
