At best most converters give inferior results. It is often better just to crop the picture taken without one.

When you say it is about half a mm from fitting do you mean it gets tight as you turn it and won't lock in place, or will it not even engage on the body where the red dots line up. I bought a cheap secondhand lens that looked fine but the mount was bent very slightly and became so tight as I turned it that it wouldn't lock on. I didn't force it and scrapped the lens.

Having read on another thread that fast lenses have a poor resolution at the edges when wide open, I fished out my old 50mm and took a few at F1.7 to see what it performed like. This one is of my gravel drive and the cat IS MEANT TO BE OUT OF FOCUS, I just wanted the to demonstrate the lenses extreme lack of DOF at F1.7. I think the resolution at the edges is acceptable. What do you think?

You could get a cheap rubber hood and cut it down! Just snip away a bit at at time till it doesn't show at 10mm.

Try a polarising filter on your 10-20 before you buy as it can have some wierd affects esp at the wide end. I got my local jessops to let me go outside with one on and take a few shots and I didn't like the results esp. at 10mm. Being so big (77mm) it won't be cheap so make sure it's worth it.
