A digital LX would be difficult to make because you'd have to solve the problem of the way digital sensors reflect light first. True TTL flash metering works the same way as the LX's OTF metering and is notoriously inacurate on the few digital SLRs which actually suport it. This was "solved" for flash metering by P-TTL and similar pre-flash based systems. A digital LX would have to meter like a mortal camera.

Unfortunately, while if I came to own such a thing I would think it fantastic, I would never buy one. The price would necessarily be too high.

Digital SLRs require a sensor, which is expensive, and processing electronics to back it up, which is also expensive. To do the LX justice the imaging system would need to be first rate (you wouldn't put boots own brand 200ISO film in a real LX would you? well then) which would mean it would be no cheaper and significantly less capable than the K7.

Worse, so few people would actually buy one that it would be a niche item, probably commanding a price more akin to a Leica R9 or M9.

There is no LXD or Auto110D for the same reason there is no Nikon F5D, Canon AED or Olypus OMD. Not enough people would buy it to make it worth doing.

nice dream though.

My K10D is still giving fine service despite being 2 models behind the cutting edge. Several of my friends have Canon 350 and 400D models which are similarly "out of date" but functional.

My Dad has a Pentax EI-200 which as far as I know still works fine while being around 8 years old.

Skoda have stopped making the Fabia I drive, but that doesn't make it any less of a reliable runabout.

Camo would be significantly harder to make than the solid colours though, perhaps khaki green?

Don't forget they got the MZ-D as far as prototype stage before canning it. Whats the betting they discovered it didn't perform well with FA glass and that was part of the reason it never made it to production. If it had just been poor availability of the sensor (which I believe was a problem), they could have obtained a different sensor and put MZ-D back into production.

the AF system struggles a bit at extreme wide angles, my 16-45 doesn't focus well at 16mm and I often have to zoom in a bit to focus then zoom out to compose.

This isn't new, I used to have an 18-28mm for my film camera and that was an absolute pig to focus too. I think it has to do with the large depth of field at wide angles, makes it hard to pinpoint the exact focus point.

we should not forget that Pentax has promissed to release the 645D at PMA before. It will be interesting to see if it turns up this time.

While I have no particular interest in FF, it is interesting to note that Nikon swore blind for years that they would never go beyond the DX format.

It remains pointless to speculate on what will be produced in a year or two years. If Pentax had a full frame K1 on the board right now it would be foolhardy of them to say so, since all you full frame fanatics would wait for the K1 rather than buy a K7, and the rest of us would wait for the K1 to come out and push down the price of the K7.

My university shop accidentally ordered a batch of branded hoodies in flouresant green. They sold out in 2 days and now they stock this outlandish colour as standard.

Sometimes people will buy the strangest things.
