the Pentax A 50mm + a reversing ring will give you ~1:2 (I think, someone please correct me if I am miss-remembering)

The focus will be fixed so you have to move the camera/subject to bring the subject into focus. Also you will have to stop down the aperture manually.

Optically the results from this setup will be pretty good, not quite what you'd get from a true macro lens but probably the best way to try it out on a tiny budget.

a zoom is more involved to design, but that big front element is going to be a pig to grind. There will be a marked difference between design costs and manufacture costs here.

Partly it'll be that primes are niche items for those who desire the highest quality at any cost. They don't make so many so economys of scale cannot be used.

Would you like to denote the photo for a test Clarky, I'm curious if Autodesk Stitcher does a better job for that money.
good idea, if you do I'll run them through Hugin and we'll see how the free option stacks up.

Yes but he doesn't post photos here and do competitions.
Samsung cameras are allowed to do that, so I think it's more the question if Samsung owners are still allowed to post ans submit photos when the camera's aren't comparable anymore.

I'm with the K-mount part, lenses are more important then the camera after all.
competitions are an entirely separate issue, the question asked if Samsung are "Pentax enough for the forum"

I don't see why anyone should be explicitly excluded from joining this forum if they find it useful.

If Samsung move away from the trend of recent years where Pentax and Samsung cameras have been functionally almost identical then this forum will become less useful to Samsung users and I would expect to see fewer of them, but I wouldn't bar them specifically.

After all, we still let ttk hang around here and he's a Canon user now.

This kind of thing can work if you see each other regularly, my Dad and I frequently borrow lenses from one another (main reason I got Pentax gear in the first place!).

Of course in our case one of us deffinitely owns any given lens and simply lends it to the other for specific occasions, and being family trust isn't really an issue.

for stitched panos 35mm will be fantastic, obviously it would be much too long for a single shot crop job.

I use Hugin to do my stitching, it can handle as many images as you can give it although you'd better have plenty of RAM to edit the final result!

Unless you have a proper pano head for your tripod, stick your thumb under the aperture ring and rotate around that point. Close enough for most things.

mmmm tricky.

Having grown up with zooms I suspect I am a little spoiled

I believe if I had to go to just 3 primes it would end up being 21, 90 macro, 300. I would be very tempted to keep my nifty fifty rather than getting the 21 though. I don't go in for wide angle much.

I can see the benefit - cutting out the wear caused by plugging and unplugging the card or USB cable, but being that slow hardly justify it.
I replace my cards every 6 months maybe less so that doesn't, personally, bother me.
I assumed he was talking about wear on the card slot in the camera
