I do a fair bit of split toning at the moment. Sometimes I see a slight different in tones matching the mood of a scene better than keeping it 'au naturel'. It depends how we see things in our minds eye. We are also in the realms of the 'Death of the Author' where we all bring our own experiences and thoughts into our interpretation of the image. I think we all need to do our own thing in order to develop our skills. If we all did things exactly the same way I would be bored to tears.

Some lovely character shots of a wee personality

As a dog owner/lover I know how you feel. It takes a bit of getting over but time is a great healer. Take care.

I think the big advantage of the 12-24 is that extra reach over the Sigma 10-20. I took some of my favourite shots with the Sigma but it had limited versatility compared to the 12-24. In addition to that I found the wider end to be too full of distortion between 10-12.

I rather like this first result Alan. It is a very useful lens. I still haven't decided on an ultra wide angle to replace it on my other system.

Mark - hopefully you'll find time to keep posting here. And I hope your new photography teaching thing is going well. Looks great/tempting!
Thank you. Its not something I was planning to get into just yet although it had been something I was thinking about long term. However, I was approached by a local woman who was already running courses. She is undergoing treatment for cancer and I said I would help out and do what I could. Its as much taking folk out and about as anything. I know all sorts of spots to go and once I started talking about my thoughts on landscape photography I realised that I had quite firm opinions about a lot of things to do with it. I did get told of as the courses are normally 8am for 8 hours. I was picking folk up before dawn and going out for 12-14 hours.

and I even like your Ullswater boathouse shot. Because I've seen it so many times in camera club competitions and Northern Counties Photographic Federation exhibitions its an image that normnally pass by quickly. But your version is one of the best I've ever seen.
I don't normally photograph it for that exact same reason. I think I've done it three times. A previous version just got a third place in one of the various categories in the International Photography Awards in Los Angeles. I don't think they'd seen it before.....

The Lee Big Stopper was better for cooler colours but broke it in a tumble down a waterfall. It was in an inside chest pocket at the time. The B&W is still going strong but a bugger to use and the warm tinge can be a nuisance.

Thanks Mark - yes the $100 will come in nicely if it covers more than just postage. I can have a lie in till nearly six now if I'm going local. When I took the bales I was at Haweswater at 5.30am - planned shot would have been a 40 minute walk to get in position but conditions weren't right so came away - did Ullswater en route to the bales. I did the boathouse en route.
