Bought a Samsung 12-24 from Mark LJ

Took this last week with a Samsung version of the DA 12-24 that I bought via ebay from Mark.

At some point I'll have to decide whether to keep the Sigma 10-20, which has been my most used lens other than the 150-500. A real favourite.

Really nice shot Alan!

And a great lens, congratulations! I think that if I would have to keep 3 lenses, this one would be one of the 3....

Nice and unusual shot

I couldn't see much difference between the DA 12-24mm and Sigma 10-20mm.
The 12-24 had some PF, but wasn't too bad. In the end I sold it
because the cheaper Sigma did everything I wanted and didn't tie
up as much money.

The only thing I miss is the longer setting of 21-24mm but too
be honest the 18-55mm Mk II Kit Lens seems as good as the 12-24mm
in that range.

I wouldn't rave over any of them though

I also have an old Sirius 18/19-28mm? which was OK on film and
got good reviews but seems poor compared to the more modern stuff.

Yeah, Mark's in the midst of splitting systems - gone full frame Nikon, but keeping his K5 for waterlogged walks.

If that image is anything to go by Alan you may well be keeping the 12-24! It looks pretty darned good to me.

Be interesting to see what you decide. I had access to a 12-24 for a while, but wasn't as blown away as I expected. Given pricing, the Siggy 10-20 is currently my daydream 'would love to have an UWA zoom' lens - for the same reasons Algi gives.

I'd always kind of imagined it would always be a case of 'one or other' of these two lenses... and that's a cracking shot. You might have to really work on your rationale for needing to keep access to that extra 2 mm

Well that's not a bad start. I really like the 12-24, the one zoom I couldn't be without.

Lovely shot.

Personally, I wouldn't get rid of my 12-24. Lovely lens. K.

Great shot! I purchased a DA 12-24mm some weeks ago, it has already become my favorite zoom lens.

Funny how we all have our preferences, I owned the previous gen Siugma 10-20 and really didn't like it due to weird distortion and not so great colour..much prefer the 12-24 which incidentally I've found I use more as a walkabout on City tours etc than I do for landscapes

I bought it for landscapes. When weighing it up I did consider your preference v the 15mm prime. Thought that was primarily from a landscape perspective.... lol

Didn't realise anyone took any notice of my posts Personally I think you've made the right decision regardless of usage, 12-24 is an excellent multi-purpose lens....I mentioned the City use mainly because it seems it gets considered just for landscapes when it's equally suited as a city walkaround where its lack of distortion really excels

I think the big advantage of the 12-24 is that extra reach over the Sigma 10-20. I took some of my favourite shots with the Sigma but it had limited versatility compared to the 12-24. In addition to that I found the wider end to be too full of distortion between 10-12.

I rather like this first result Alan. It is a very useful lens. I still haven't decided on an ultra wide angle to replace it on my other system.

Great shot that, Alan!

The 12-24 was (and probably still is) on my list of lenses to aspire to. I take some architecture shots, but use the wide angles mainly for landscapes. I have just bought (because it was so cheap) a 2nd hand Sigma 10-20 which I will get my hands on in 2 weeks. I have heard about the wide end distortion, but I suspect most of my shots will be taken in the 12-16 range.

I can't wait to try out the lens. If I'm disappointed, then the 12-24 will fire up my shopping list, once I've tried a kind young man's 12-24, of course!
