In short, all Pentax bayonet mount ('K' mount) lenses will fit and work with your K100D. The SMC Pentax-DA range (digital only) lenses will probably not work with your film camera.

For compatibility between your DSLR and your film camera you'd do well to buy anything newer than, and including, the SMC Pentax-A series lenses. Any of the SMC Pentax-A, -F, -FA ranges will work with both cameras. Lenses from the -FAJ and -DA series do not have an aperture ring and may will not work with your film camera if you can't set the aperture from the camera body.

I agree, the image has much more 'punch' without being 'over-processed'. You ought to be very pleased with the end result.

Out of interest, did you shoot it RAW, or JPG? RAW gives you much more post-processing latitude for adjustments.

Me too. Much improved composition in my opinion. Can I also suggest you play with the contrast to remove some of the 'milkiness' (I don't know the proper terminology). If this was taken recently, the robin's breast ought to be much more red in it's summer plumage, which I think you can achieve by adjusting contrast/vibrance/saturation.

An excellent shot that I think would be improved if you made it a portrait (instead of landscape) and lost half or more of the left hand side. Too much void in my opinion. Shows off bokeh nicely, but detracts from the main subject.

You forgot to mention the sherpas.

Sorry George, I forgot to mention . . . my wife always comes with me, and stop calling her sherpa, her name's Shirley (close enough I suppose). Well I can't carry all that lot by myself .

I would personally prefer to use 2 lenses to cover the range you mentioned.

I would choose the SMCP-DA 16-45mm or 12-24mm to cover the bottom end, and probably the SMCP-DA 50-200mm for the top end, or even a SMCP-FA 80-320mm to get the extra focal length and forego the gap between 45 and 80mm.

Reason:- Modern Pentax lenses are very light in comparison to older Pentax lenses and you'd have better & faster glass to cover the range you want. The extra weight of a DA lens to carry is almost negligable. You would have the possible inconvenience of having to occasionally change lenses.

Whenever I go out I take the SMCP-DA 12-24mm, SMCP-DA 16-45mm, SMCP-FA 28-105mm, SMCP-F 70-210mm, SMCP-FA 31mm Limited, SMCP-FA 50mm 1:1.4, SMCP-FA 100mm Macro, and Sigma 135-400mm APO as a minimum to cater for 99% of my needs.

The closest lens I have to your spec. is the SMCP-FA 28-200mm, a fine performer if I can only take one lens.

Pity SRS don't post abroad
Oh yes they do. Chris sent my K10D and an AF540FGZ to Spain. Holland should be no problem.

That's a remarkable price and £150.00 less than I paid SRS for mine back in January. Serves me right for wanting (rather than needing) one so early I guess.

I could buy a second body I suppose . . . . Hmmmm.

What you may not know is that the zoom ring slides backward and forward to engage/disengage power zoom mode. I found it accidentally when I bought my 28-105mm lens.

I think only the Z1 and Z1-P cameras used the switch you mention.

So far, I think this thread has dealt only with VAT on sales. A huge benefit of being VAT registered is that you can claim back VAT on purchases, so those expensive lenses suddenly become 17.5% cheaper . You can also claim this retrospectively if you intend using your own photographic equipment as a company asset, which you can then depreciate over a number of months/years.

An example: My first company car was a 12 seater Land Rover Defender. Why . . . because any vehicle over 10 (maybe 11) seats at that time was classed as a commercial vehicle (mini-bus) and I was able to reclaim a huge wedge of VAT.

My best advice . . . get a good accountant.
