When you decide you really want those Limited's after all, let me know. I'll do a straight swap.

Would you like hammer finish, or smooth gloss? I have only the original and genuinely limited Titanium versions, which are way cooler than ordinary, boring, run-of-the-mill, everybody has them, black anyway, but I'll throw in the required Hammerite to repaint them.

Given that any single lens requires a different amount of 'fine adjustment' on different Pentax bodies that have the facility to make said adjustment, I'd say it's the body, not the lens.

Of course, if the camera can't make enough adjustment to obtain good focus at any setting, you have to question the lens.

That's not a fixed aperture lens. It's largest aperture is f4.5 but it closes down to f22. That makes it a bog-standard zoom lens. As I wrote previously, the only fixed aperture lenses that I know of are the mirror type, AKA reflex lenses.

Advantage? - - - It's cheap.

Disadvantage? - - - It's a Soligor, hence the advantage above.

I have no other experience of third party lenses but just remember, "you gets what you pays for". If it's cheap, it's cheap for a reason.

The SMCP-FA* 200mm Macro lens was my holy grail for many years. When they became available I needed a mortgage to buy one, so I gave up.

Instead I bought a new Sigma 180mm 1:3.5 lens from SRS and I have to say it's awesome. If you can find somebody willing (daft enough) to sell one, go for it, you'll not regret it.

The affordable one (probably around £800.00) doesn't have optical stabilization (OS), but for macro, you don't need it. The later ones that do have OS are not available in Pentax K mount, and probably never will be.

Can you elaborate please, which lens/lenses?

The only fixed aperture lenses I'm aware of are mirror/reflex lenses, but these are usually fixed at f8, not f4.5

You lucky bar steward. When you next visit Spain you've just gotta bring it with you and I'll buy you as many beers as it takes to have a play.

The onboard flash doesn't support High Speed Synch (HSS) but the AF360FGZ and AF540FGZ flashes do, such that you can set the shutter speed to any setting available on the camera, even 1/8000th.

Closing this for the moment ... blew the combined prices of a new 31mm/43mm/77mm plus a fair bit more on a Pentax lens yesterday so I'm totally, completely, 100% skint.

Not quite sure how the wife is going to react when it arrives ... not like I can hide it anywhere.
Have I missed something? What have you bought instead?

It has NEVER been a photography forum! It is a Pentax forum, with occasional outbursts of photography.

Darktable would seem to be an alternative to Lightroom, and likewise Gimp for Photoshop.
