a link to WIZIWYG, the best (or one of the best, at least) free monitor calibration apps. TBH, I haven't checked to see if the file is still current, but if not, let me know and I'll stick a fresh copy on my website for you to download.

Oh, and Matt, if you read this, is there somewhere on this site where we can host downloads that are unavailable elsewhere, if necessary? Or maybe ephotozine?

Cheers

They're cracking shots Galoot. We'll definitely have to go up there again this year. IIRC, if you go across the ferry, and drive left, a bit further down, there's an island in the middle that had seals sitting on it. I took some, but the longest lens I had was a 70-210 on an ME Super, so they were a bit small. Should be easily in reach for me now.

Brian,

you have to go down the pub, it's heresy not to. I'm just off out myself, as it happens. I'll have one for you..

Right eye, but again for moving subjects I keep both eyes open. I went through a spell of taking pictures of Red Kites in flight, and with a long lens, it's nigh on impossible to find them quickly.

Hi Tim,

Quote:
I suspect the large size of the file is due in part to having to support so many lanuages in the Menus.
It could be.. I got my DL, and within 5 minutes of going through the menu to set up bits and pieces, whilst having little idea of what I was actually doing, I set the language to Chinese.

This being a language I'm not familiar with.. , I didn't understand the menu then, and couldn't change it back to English. Luckily the chaps here sorted me out.. mind you, I could have just risen to the challenge and taken evening classes in Cantonese, but I was lazy..

Hi Peter,

Quote:
Good news indeed, but . . . there'll be a few unhappy bunnies who have shelled out for a second 360 or 540 to make wireless flash work.
As I found out the other day here (and tested) you can use wireless in M or A modes with the 360, and I'll assume the 540, with the entire D range. Use the popup flash as controller (this happens automatically), and set the 360 to Slave 2 (p49 of manual)..

Quote:
I'm just wondering if they'll retro-fit any of the K10D software refinements into the rest of the range, the *istD especially. They did it with the DS when the DS2 was released. Then again, Pentax will want joe public to be replacing D's with K10D's.
I didn't realise until this thread, that it is purely a firmware app..

Matt,

this is your area of expertise, how likely is it that this would happen? Can they just cannibalise the chunk of code for wireless P-TTL and stick in the firmware for the other D cameras, or is it more complicated?

Cheers

It's just occured to me, but how difficult would it have been to stick another hotshoe on the (left hand) side of the body of any Pentax camera, so that you could just mount the gun on it for portrait? I would guess that flash is used at least as much in portrait as landscape..

Oh well, just a thought.

There was this haunted house on the outskirts of the town which was avoided by all the townfolk - the ghost which `lived' there was feared by all.

However, an enterprising journalist decided to get the scoop of the day by photographing the fearsome phantom. When he entered the house, armed with only his camera, the ghost descended upon him, clanking chains et al. He told the ghost "I mean no harm - I just want your photograph". The ghost was quite happy at this chance to make the headlines - he posed for a number of ghostly shots.

The happy journalist rushed back to his dark room, and began developing the photos. Unfortunately, they turned out to be black and underexposed.

So what's the moral of the story?

The spirit was willing but the flash was weak.
