Hi all,

for those of you that have seen us chatting about SILKYPIX 3 for RAW files, I've just been playing with it on jpegs, and white balance adjustments, exposure etc, work well with it. I assume it works completely differently, as you get the metadata for all that in the RAW file, so I assume it alters the jpegs using different means.. Matt???????

You get a free trial, and a free version (although, I don't know what differences in functionality there are compared to the full version) so you can check it out..

Hope that helps..

Cheers

Hi Skoker,

if it's a full moon, it'll almost be hand holdable with a 300 lens, so stick in a tripod and let the camera work it out. If you shoot RAW, then any minor exposure compensation can be done afterwards.

As you can see from Peter's settings, that's about what you'd expect for a grey cloudy day.

Hope that helps,

Cheers

Indeed it does There's a little slider that locks it.

The genuine CS-205 does... I'm not sure about the "compatibles" though.

Who said I'd finished with it??

You've got snow covered mountains to play with, so I'm keeping it for another week or two..

Matt,

I've had a read through the links, and I'll need several more, but I did try the edge sharpening layer and merging (blending??), on a flower I took, and it's quite nice..

Definitely more to it than I thought (surprised huh??).

Thanks for that.

RAW converted with SP3.. The only thing I didn't do with SP was the sharpening.. which I still can't get the way I want it. I transferred the settings I use in GIMP, but it just doesn't quite do it.

Perhaps one of you will know; does SP use a type of unsharp mask to do this, or a different sharpening algorithm. I use UsM in GIMP normally, and find it gives nice results at the same setting every time.. these are..

Radius...... 5
Amount.... 0.4
Threshold.. 0

Oh, and George, thanks for the tip about Memory 1 for the colour..

EDIT: Hi George.. there were signs all around saying that the road at the front would flood at high tide, and with seaweed half way to the car park, I guess the got it good in the storms last week..

Luckily it was low tide and we could walk all round to the quay. There were a couple of marooned boats in the mud, but I didn't take any of them worth showing.. Just 'cos SP3 gives me 3 stops to play with, doesn't mean I should..

Cheers

Hi Galoot,

As george says, the frame really makes him/her stand out.. lovely colours as well. Great focus on the eyes.

BTW.. Where can I get one of those tartan romper suits in an XL..

I'm sure I can say that you're very welcome on everyone elses behalf..

You do know though, that LBA (lens buying addiction) is quite a severe side effect of this forum. You may as well tell the wife/partner etc. now that some months the housekeeping may be a bit short.. by a few £100

Cheers

Hi Roger,

with the DS (I have a DL, so I'm happy with the figures) you get an image of 3008 x 2000 pixels. If you display at 72 dpi, which is what monitors are generally set to, then you get 72 pixels per inch, or an image 41" x 28" (aprox) open an image on your screen and set to 100% and you'll see. Printing is usually done at 300dpi, so you get a printed image, without any resizing (interpolating) of 10" x 7" or about A4 sized. To get a printed image greater than taht, the software used, either by you or the printer will interpolate, or add pixels to, the image in order to increase the finished print to the required size. To print smaller than the A4 native sized print, the software used will decrease the amount of pixels in a reverse procedure to the above.

If you actually print at 72 dpi, you'll get a very blocky/low resolution (relatively) image by comparison. If you'd printed at 72 instead of 300, you would have noticed.. The software would have corrected to a printing resolution.

Printing at more than 300 dpi, whilst it may sound great, will probably not result in a better image, due to the resolving power of the eye.

So, in summary, you'll get the best image from a 6mp camera at A4, and from the K10D at the proportionally larger size, A4 x 1/3 ish..

hope that helps, and the usual disclaimer that I could be completely wrong stands..

Cheers

Liam
