re: the noise...
I'm not being patronising here.. but the mirror and lens are a couple of inches from your sinuses.. which are effectively a sound box. You hear the sound through your ears and through your head.. from, as I say, a couple of inches. Pop into a church, or somewhere equally as quiet, and get your girlfriend, or A N Other, to rattle off a few shots from various distances from you. You really won't hear that much, in comparison to taking the shots yourself.. and if you're the official photographer, or his mate, this will be understood by the attendees anyway.

It's the raised bit at bottom right which is intended to stop it rotating inwards once attached. My concern is that it might chip the paint at the bottom of the K10D body - it doesn't even look necessary, since the soft rubber cushion effectively stops any movement once the screw on the bottom is done up reasonably tight.
I'm thinking of either gluing (if possible) a little bit of rubber cushion to the inside surface of the bit that butts up against the camera, or cutting it off completely.
Any thoughts from those that use these things?
I didn't know that the K10's body was painted. On the DL, it's (as far as I can tell) black plastic, and I just checked, and there's not a single sign of any marking on that, not even a sheen from contact.. and that's after a year or more.

I use something similar, but it has an extra strap that fits around the wrist with a cliplock strap. It's never been off the camera since the day I bought it.. upwards of a year.

As I said, it's never been off the camera since I got it.. and it's tidy enough that on those occasions you just pick up the camera for a shot or two, it doesn't get in the way if you don't use it.
Put it on the camera, put your quick release in the tripod socket underneath, and you're away. I only use the one body, so I don't have Don's problem. You don't need to take it off to change lenses either.. little finger on the lens release.
To change batteries (DL), just turn the bottom plate 1/4 turn and back again.
No-one's going to be able to grab it and run off with it either.. or if they do, they end up with 200lb of hairy bloke permanently attached..

I find it hady, as once it's on, you can't drop the camera and it doesn't get in the way of the controls. As I tend to carry the camera for the entire time I'm wandering about.. several hours at times, it's very useful.
