I shall have to consider posting for help in the future for fear of being shot down again, I may just struggle out my problems on my own.

Again thank you.
Don't go..

You'll find, as you keep posting, that we're all here for one purpose, to enjoy nattering about photography. The biggest difference between this forum and many others is that we don't discriminate on the basis of knowledge or equipment.

You'll get very knowledgable people here only too willing to help you out, and help turn you into a damn fine photographer. There's a lot to learn of course, as with everything else in life, and if you don't know something.. someone else will, and they'll happily tell you if you ask. You'll be ribbing other members in no time. You may even get to meet some of us, if there's a local gathering happening in your area.

As Don says, the info you can gleen from us would cost you decent money elsewhere, and it'll keep coming.

Above all, now we've determined you're not a troll, you're on the way to becoming friends with a couple of hundred people with the same interest as yourself.. not bad for a mornings work really.

Cheers

Sorry, but is this poster serious? Why as a first camera, let alone a first SLR would you choose the K10D and then expect it to behave like a P&S? Yes the K10D is a superb camera, but it is not a beginners camera. Surely if you are spending a great wodge of money on a camera you do some research first into what you want/need and how to use it? And understad the differece between a P&S and a dSLR.
Or am I the stupid one here? This has the feel of a Troll to me.
Come on Gwyn, everyone has to start somewhere.. and we at Pentax Towers welcome noobs.. do we not.

It's a simple enough assumption to think that the screens on the back of both DSLRs and P&Ss would do the same thing.

As has been mentioned, start off with the P setting, until you get used to the viewfinder, and keep asking questions..

I did a silly thing the other day at a party BTW. I was asked to take a photo of a couple using their camera.. a P&S.. and I held it up to my face to look through the (non-existent) viewfinder.

Hands up anyone else who's done that..

The first one is straight I tell ya..

It's an optical illusion, caused by all the different angles.. mainly the chunk of grass in the left corner.

try this.. get your mouse mat and cover the bottom half of the picture leaving 1/4 inch of water above the edge. Et voila..

And thanks for the comments as well chaps.

Also may just be me, but is the horizon straight on the first one? I always find myself doing that, I'm beginning to wonder if I have one leg longer than the other
I had to look twice as well, but yes it is. It's because there are two banks at differing distances on the far shore. I had to pull down a couple of gridlines to check it though.

Hi all,

I paid a visit to Virginia Water in Surrey yesterday, and these are a couple of the better ones.. same place, but about an hour apart and a different height of viewpoint.. I particularly liked the ripples near the bank in the second.

Feel free to pick them apart though..

Hi Pete,

experiment with gaussian blur. You already have it.. somewhere. I don't use PS so you'll have to have a dig round.

Cheers
