I've just had another of those scam phone calls from Megabyte Solutions (of Birmingham!!). But the accent suggester elsewhere.

I went along with it for a change just for some fun and led him up the garden path a bit - he got a little annoyed. This must be at least the 10th call I've had of this nature in the last 12 months. Guess there's no way to stop these calls.

Lithium Ion batteries are not supposed to have a memory, so in theory we could top up as required. However, I'm not convinced this is 100% true, so I tend to allow the battery to get some real use before recharging.

In practice, this means that I get a low battery indication in the field, change batteries when it stays low even after a rest, and then swap to the spare. The exhausted battery gets a recharge after I return home.

It's never been much of a problems as these batteries seem to have a lot of power in them.
Thanks John and Bret for info.

John...I have a new K5 and the battery has only been charged once. Still full bars and I've taken about 100 DNG shots and I've also 'fiddled' with settings etc.

Seems OK but when you say recharging does this mean letting the battery virtually drain first or can you charge it any time to get it 'up to par'?

Hi Pete. I've had mine for a week - no serious photography - just 'playing' with it and getting used to it. Also doing a bit of reading of handbook (so many pages) and looking at reviews/info on the INTERNET.

Off to British Columbia on 22/9 so want to be ready to use it and some of it's facilities by then.

Great camerawera isn't it Pete.

Cheers

This may sound like a dumb question but I'm stumped by the removable panel on the bottom part of the lens hood. I would tend to leave the panel in place but what purpose is there in removing it??

Bet there's an obvious reason but I'm blowed if I can think of one!!

Hi Steve - Tend to agree with davex - could be a tad lighter. Quite happy with the rocks.

I love waterfalls - where was this taken?
