1. I shoot DNG.
2. I use ACR in PSE12.
3. When satisfied I open image in PSE12 for any further editing eg sharpening.
4. I then save as a JPG from PSE12.
5. And then once in a while I get an XMP file. It must be something I do in the process but as far as I'm aware I follow the same procedure with every photo.
6. A couple of years ago I did shoot in PEF and always got an XMP fie.
7. I assume there is no advantage with PEF over DNG - or the other way round. The reason I changed to DNG was that I was using PSE7 and K5 PEF files weren't recognised by the version of ACR that was then available!
Cheer...John
My RAW files are DNG and I use a K5.
But - I'm not sure of the settings I should use in ACR.
1. Should I use 8bits/channel or 16bits/channel. The default when I use it is 8bits/channel. What are the advantages/disadvantages of each.
2. Camera Calibration is set at 2012 current. Alternatives are 2010 and 2003. I assume 2012 is correct.
3. Camera Profile is set as Embedded. The alternative is Adobe Standard - should I change to Adobe Standard.
4. Finally when I save as JPG I occasionally get an XMP file - any idea why? Shouldn't I get an XMP file for all or none???
Cheers..John
Have deactivated and deleted PSE 10 from Desktop and Laptop. Will load PSE 12 shortly.
Thanks again for your assistance.

I have just purchased PS Elements 12 and have PSE 10 on my computer. My queries are: -
1. Should I deactivate PSE 10 and if so what advantage is there in doing this? Will it have any resale value?
2. I am unlikely to use PSE 10 again - I assume it's best to uninstall it?
Cheers....John

I must now look into ways to ensure this does not re-occur with this or any other lenses.

I left it in the sun yesterday and will do so again - when and if we get more sun! I think I read somewhere that it won't get rid of the fungus but may kill it and stop it spreading.
Yes I saw the cost of £52.99 per Sigma for getting rid of fungus. I could accept, cost-wise, I hour but if it takes a lot longer...I'll have to think carefully. Will see if I can get an estimate before sending it off.
I suppose this would not be a DIY job!!
Cheers and thanks...John
