Aurora's

Just to make every one aware of possible night sky storms in the northern skies over the next few nights with a possiblity of aurora's being visible as the sun has thrown out 3 large CME's, so there may be some good shots, there is a storm ongoing at the present time so if you have a clear sky and in the north of England or Scotland get out and have a look. here is a link for the aurora watch site http://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/ for up to date coverage.

Guess the Midlands is too far South

Just posted a picture in the gallery I took in 2004 when we lived in Aberdeenshire (taken with a Nikon Coolpix - sorry!). Can't work out how to include it in this post.

Miss the auroras, but not the cold....Too far south here in Norfolk to see anything.

It is a good photo but the wires spoil it.

I loved seeing the aurora in February, though being on a moving boat meant no stunning photos. I'm happy with the ones I got, but I spent more time watching that taking photos tbh.
I am going again next March and have my fingers crossed the elusive lady will show herself again.

we have some clear sky at the moment

Maybe 2-3 hours of clear sky slots tonight before the next low pressure system moves in.
Remember there's a bright waxing Moon which will reach around 26 degrees altitude tonight.
Storm in pogress seems to have subsided slightly. Magnetic field is still bias towards north...need it to tip sharply south for any chance.

According to http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/3 you might see them from Aberdeen now, if you are lucky.
