I too use such a spirit level when using a tripod, especially for landscapes.
Quite fancy a spirit level with built in camera shim!!

Have you thought about a monopod - a lot lighter than a tripod and you can fit them with good heads (and probably including a spirit level).
What with the Shake reduction on the camera and using a monopod you should be able to get sharp shots in poor light.
I normally use a tripod (Manfrotto XPROB and head also Manfrotto 804RC2) but if I want to travel light I use a cheap, lightweight monopod.
