Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me here.
I have a Sigma 120/400mm which I use with my K7. Recently I have noticed there appears to be some fungus on the inside of the front element.
I have been 'googling' for repairers and would like a local repairer if possible within West Midlands. I would prefer to deliver and collect rather than post.
I have found one which 'covers' Birmingham but suspect they are not based in Birmingham. Also I can't find their address!! ie link
Does anybody know this company and are they reliable?
Alternatively does anybody know of a reliable repairer preferably in the West Midlands. If not I'll have to bite the bullet and post the lens to a repairer.
Thanks

For what it's worth I have 2 batteries - one from my K7 and one from my K5. One has the number 201012. The other has no number. But - I have no idea which battery came from which camera!!

My K5 went back to Jessops a couple of weeks ago - and they've sent it to Pentax. I was told it could take 4-6 weeks before I get it back or a replacement. Will keep you informed.
BTW the K5 can only take a lithium ion battery. I have 3 including a non Pentax one. The problem happens with all 3 batteries. Thank goodness I kept my K7. No mirror flop with it.
Cheers. John
Well...collected my K5 from Jessops on 23/7 so the repair took just over 3 weeks - fairly reasonable.

The work done was "Replaced AF Motor, cleaned and tested"

I've taken a dozen photos and the problem has - so far - not been repeated. Fingers crossed it will be OK for the future.

Thanks for all your comments/help.

A point - just checked and my K5 is under a year old so I can invoke the warranty - BUT - I bought it from Jessops (A bit cheaper than SRS but the big selling point was free instalments over 10 months!!).

I can't do anything about it 'till I'm home from holiday but does anyone have any experience of Jessops in situations like this?

Matt

I'm on 1.11 - should I upgrade to 1.13?? Perhaps no point if you have the problem with 1.13!

I've tried taking the battery out and re-inserting and also tried a 'cheap' battery (InoV80), both either fully charged or not fully charged but the problem persists. It's quite bad - I sometimes can take a couple of shots but then whatever button I press flicks the mirror or shutter - no idea which - but it makes the sound of a photo being taken - but no photo is taken.

I'm on holiday in Spain - wish I'd taken my K7 as a back up!! Next time I will - hindsight is wonderful.

I have had a K5 for over a year now. Love it.
BUT.....over the last few weeks it has started to give me a problem. It doesn't semm to matter which button I press or whether I try and take a photo I get a sound as if I had taken a photo. But a photo is not actually taken. This happens regardless of which lens I use and also happens with no lens attached. So it cannot be due to dirty contacts on the lens.

The problem is intermittent (inevitably) and so far I have not been able to establish what sets this problem off. I have tried with a fully charged battery or a partially discharged battery - doesn't seem to matter. Also taking the battery out and then reinserting it. Sometimes this stops the problem for a while. Also switching the camera off can help but not always.

Am in Spain at present, could heat affect it? But I'm fairly sure this problem has happened in England with no high temperatures.

Hope I've clearly explained the problem. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Cheers....John
