Thanks to all who have commented - it's always interesting and often stimulating to read what others think.

JAK, Saltwick Bay is all in the timing of the visit, isn't it? I went twice during our stay up there: the first time I arrived as the tide was coming in on a dull day so left disappointed - no way was I going to get stuck on the rocks and cut off by the tide! I timed my second visit to coincide with the low tide time, which gave me plenty of time to potter around, but it was about 8am and little sign of sun or water. You seem to have timed it better - I'm pleased at least that my efforts prompted you to go there, even if the main attraction of the wreck of the Admiral von Tromp was inaccessible! Another visit is definitely called for!

Final set from our trip, taking in Saltwick Bay, Sandsend and Whitby, after an early start from Robin Hoods Bay. Hope they give a taste of what a lovely coastline this is. All comments welcome. As always, K3 + 16-85mm

Don't mind at all, Philip, I think you're right about the conversion - I'll try it with others.
Regarding the white balance, I adjusted it in Photoshop raw to what I think is an accurate reflection of how the street lights lit up the surroundings, so trying not to overdo it. I would add, however, that the software did not like it one bit and would have converted all the night shots into pallid versions of reality if I had used the "auto" setting.

Thanks, David. I actually think RHB looks better by night than in the daytime - much more atmospheric, with back allies and ginnels leading everywhere. Had I known of your connection, I would have paid a visit to the graveyard!

Chris, thanks for your comments, too. I think I may have used the wrong term in my ignorance. The flare around the lights is the effect I was looking for, but what showed up in a number of shots were - and I don't know the correct technical term - pentagonal artefacts with different colours. Some are only visible in processing, others stick out like a sore thumb and some images don't seem to have any at all. Any explanation would be welcome! Here's an example:

As far north as we went this time, the village of Staithes must be one of the most photographed of all coastal villages. Didn't stop me from having a go, mind! The first two were on a really dull day at the end of a walk up from Runswick; the rest on a second visit when the sun thankfully made it a bit brighter. All comments welcome.

Spent some time recently based at Robin Hoods Bay on the north Yorks coast - mixed weather but wonderful scenery. First a selection of night-time shots in RHB. All K3 and DA 16-85mm. Please feel free to comment - I found that some images had lots of lens flare around the street lights, while others had none at all and I'd be glad if someone could explain why!

Thank you, both, and yes, David, the combination of artistic and natural elements seemed to gel perfectly. It would have been hard to make a mess of such a photographic opportunity!

After the morning canal walk, we (my wife and I) spent the afternoon at the Yorkshire Sculpture park. I don't normally get excited about photographing other people's artwork, but in this setting ....
Hope you like these.

Yesterday morning along the canal. Not a massive fan of reflections normally, but these were irresistible. K-3 with Sigma 18-250. I assure you these colours are just as I saw them! All comments welcome.
