Thanks for all the comments, folks.
Don, I can't say that there was or wasn't any divine influence on the weather, I just liked the clean lines of the building, but who knows?
No. 2 is my favourite as well - the power of the sea is awesome (in the original meaning of that word!) at times.

Here's one more taken very shortly before no. 2 and cropped quite heavily:

Before Lisbon, we had a few days in the Algarve, on the south coast. Some very windy conditions and rough seas, with lots of cloud and changing light quality, made for great photo opportunities. Hope you find something here to reflect that. All K-3 + DA 16-85.

Thank you all for commenting - seems like my intended aim of bringing out the visual impact of the street surfaces seeming to disappear into the buildings and rooftops beyond was moderately successful!

Never been to Portugal before, but got there in March and loved it! Found Lisbon fascinating - lots of steep, narrow streets a bit off the tourist path as I've tried to show here. All K-3 with DA 16-85. Hope they give a good idea of the place!

You can see here the same shape/behaviour as a British lapwing, but that extra-ordinary mask turns it into a quite spectacular, exotic creature. Your photos remind me of a trip I once did to The Gambia, where several times a day you would find the most beautiful birds that would make you think "Wow, just look at that!" That's what a lot of your photos do for me, Don - please keep them coming!

Thank you all for commenting. A few more from the trip north to follow in due course, I hope.

Peter, I can see why you make the comment about "leaning to the right", but I think it's an impression created by the lie of the foreground rocks. The vertical lines of the lighthouse keeper's house seem OK to me when I view with gridlines superimposed. Nevertheless, any such impression would detract from the quality of the image in the eye of the viewer, so the composition could perhaps have been better

And the first time I've been near enough to St Mary's to be able to get there for sun-up. These won't be anything special for the locals, no doubt, but I'm glad I made the effort to get out of bed!

And the Fisherman memorial wasn't there the last time we were in North Shields - a wonderful tribute to all those lost at sea

Superb! Without meaning any offence at all, I would say these are an object lesson in how to make the pretty ordinary look really quite special! Well spotted!

All good, but the second is a classic!
