Well done! Still got my K100D Super which keeps on keeping on (or rather my son has it....). Probably the best JPEGs that anyone managed to get out of that Sony 6MP sensor.

I assume this is the fabled "bokina" lens? In which case it is very highly rated and would I suspect sell at a significant premium compared to the more common Tamron 90s of the time. Definitely three figure price but no recent listings on EBay so hard to pitch. I wouldn't be surprised if it was somewhere in the region of £200+ but others may be more specific.

Did anyone else from here take part in the Advanced Photographer mag 24 hour shoot in London a couple of weekends back? It's been a long while since I've been able to do anything other than fit a few photos around the edges of everything else, so I thoroughly enjoyed getting immersed for a while.

Link to slideshow with some of my images here:

And proof I stayed up late. This one was taken around midnight with the MX-1. It's a significant crop of a picture of the Tate Modern, taken from the Millenium (wobbly) Bridge:

I went from Pentax (K-7) to m43, had the OM-D for a year or so, and have now returned to Pentax (K-5). I'd seriously consider the K-5 at the prices you can pick them up from SRS.

The sensor in the OM-D is spectacular and I suspect based on very similar technology to the Pentax - both being Sony-sourced. The Pentax is a little better at higher ISOs, but I never thought the OM-D was lacking in that regard. Both have got great dynamic range.

Cheaper fast lenses were part of the reasoning for me too - in my case the Tamron 17-50 was a cheap no-brainer, as well as affordable weather sealed lenses. The 18-135 is better than you might think. Micro 43 lenses are very good - at least many of them are - but they're not cheap, especially the fast zooms of which only two are currently available.

I prefer the ergonomics of the Pentax, which feels more solid than the OM-D to me - sort of an Audi compared to an Alfa! And it's much easier to find your way around the camera and its menu system. Much as I thought it was a very capable camera, the OM-D had enough foibles (especially the horrendous menu system) that it sometimes got in the way of my photography. I don't regret moving back.

Cheers,

Jon

Also check sales tax and warranties...you often get much longer cover in the UK (6 months not uncommon in US) although compact digicams are usually v reliable.

For £226 you should buy two and sell one back here!

Used mine during a 24 hour shoot in London last weekend. The fast lens helps keep the ISOs low enough even at midnight, focusing was snappy and accurate, and the image quality excellent too. It also helps that the interface is similar to Pentax dSLRs so there's almost no learning curve on that front. I'll post a few samples over the next day or so.

You might want to check out the price of th MX-1 here too. With cashback and free Billingham pouch from SRS (and two year warrantee from pro dealer) it may compare well with American deals. To be honest, I'd probably just take the MX-1 to NYC......

Thanks - I definitely planned for it to be black and white and wanted to maximise the contrast between the leaves and the tree trunk - Nik Silver Efex was really helpful with this one.

For the second image, I had a play with OnOne software, which is an awful lot of fun. I'm obviously going through a phase at the moment. Sooner or later, I'll stop fiddling and start posting more accurate photographs again, but in the meantime please forgive me!
