It's a simple make-over of the older SMC DA version. It looks nicer (more modern) and has different coatings but is otherwise the same.

Only ten years or so late...

I hear of more and more problems with this lens and it's making me have second thoughts about keeping mine.

Very nice images. I much prefer this style of macro shots without everything in focus and almost the whole frame clinically sharp, they're much more pleasant on the eye. I think this is helped by using an older lens. I have also found that Takumars on extension tubes can be great at macro, though I haven't done it for a while. I remember using my SMC Tak 105mm f/2.8 on tubes stopped down to around f/5.6 and it gave wonderful rendering.

That's quite a leap from the Q to medium format, but I have to say I'd love to see your work in all the glory of MF. I'm not looking to sell any of it, but I can recommend the original Pentax 645 and the superb 75mm f/2.8 normal lens. I think this would provide the quality improvement over 135 format film while still providing a shooting experience not too far off a 135 format SLR. Of course, I dream of owning a 6x7 and 105mm f/2.4, but that's far more expensive and would be a very different shooting experience.

I find a walk with a single prime very liberating, though 28mm on FF wouldn't be my choice, too wide.

Very well deserved, I can't think of a photographer I'd be more interested in seeing in a documentary. Please post a link where we can see it when it's ready.

I almost got it but I have the M version already and after bad experiences with Ffordes I didn't want to get stuck again with paying delivery and return delivery for something that wasn't as described.

The MX is certainly an upgrade from the K1000 and the black ones are gorgeous (I just bought one myself, from someone on this forum).
