Brings back memories from our trip to Italy in January 2018. Very nice.

Size, weight and cost are really the main reasons not to go to a K-1, and in "cost" I include selling off APS-C lenses and spending money on FF lenses.

For me it's primarily cost but also weight for travelling and my attachment to the DA Limited lenses.

I don't see why he can't learn. Results may not be perfect from day one but anyone willing to learn can pick it up, I'm sure.

Welcome to the forum and to Pentax!

As for tips - use a tripod (and two-second timer) and stop down the aperture of the lens as much as needed to get the sharpest images possible across the whole frame. Probably f/8 or f/11.

I've ordered a used one of these and going by the pictures on the website where I bought it, it will be without a lens hood. If anyone has one for sale (perhaps from a lens that's had a mishap) or knows where I can get one for a reasonable price, please let me know. The cheapest I've found so far is £28 plus postage from Bristol cameras, which I think is pretty steep for a little bit of plastic.

Many thanks

I've never had a problem with my K-3 clearing the buffer as long as I use it with a fast card.

Regarding more AF points, I generally use central point, focus and re-compose. When on a tripod (usually taking family pics while on holiday) I do change the AF point to make sure it's on us, and here it could be handy to have more, but I can always switch it to live-view and place the focus wherever I want it, so not really essential.

I think it's just part of the "more more more" approach that manufacturers would have us believe is necessary to get better photos.

I'd try a different battery altogether. This kind of behaviour has been linked to insufficient power before and the problem could be the battery, which would now be fairly old if it's the original one that came with the camera.

Wow, I think that's less than I paid and the cheapest I've ever heard of one going.

Bargain

I've got it in K mount and it's beautifully built.

As for that matter is the 35mm in M42 mount I have.

Does anybody know if Vivitar 'made' any more lenses of this quality? The various 28mms I've seen with the Vivitar badge on are clearly from a different place all together....
The two different versions of the 28mm f/2 (Kiron and Komine) are both very good indeed, though of course not as sharp as the 55/2.8 wide open.

I have to say this is a big blow to Pentax, despite what some say. They provide some lenses that have been very popular indeed (17-50/2.8, 10-20 etc) and which don't really have an equivalent from Pentax or another third party make, die to either significant price or quality difference.
I believe those lenses are still available brand new from retailers if you wish to buy them. Do you want links for them?
The point is that they won't be available much longer. I have the 17-50mm and it's a great lens but if it ever gets stolen or breaks I may not be able to replace it. New users won't even get the option of buying a new copy.

I'm thinking most Pentax users are buying Pentax lenses which means Sigma have a lot of K mount lenses to get rid of and they have no wish to make matters worse. I'd feel the same if I was Sigma. Buy them or loose them.
It is worth considering that Pentax cameras have correction profiles for Pentax lenses but not for Sigma ones. Sigma's 8-16 doesn't even report the wider focal lengths to the camera.
If it's Sigma lenses people want, buy a Sigma DSLR or mirrorless. Problem solved. But would you expect to get Pentax lenses for it or moan if you can't?
I think Sigma have dropped their SLR mount as they are putting all their weight behind their FF mirrorless mount with Leica and Panasonic.

People with Pentax cameras and Sigma lenses, such as myself, don't want just Sigma lenses, they want Sigma lenses and Pentax lenses to use on their Pentax cameras, thereby putting together a system they're happy with and which covers their needs.

JAK wrote:
If anyone feels Pentax is such an awful system consider why are you supporting it by buying their cameras in preference to other marques? Nothing's basically changed in the last thirty years, or make that 50 if just considering the K mount. Other marques can't boast that.
Pentax isn't an awful system at all, far from it, but with the removal of support from Sigma it's a lesser system than it used to be. Less choice = lesser system. I don't think there's any arguing about that.
