There are a lot more of us out here who have had no SDM issues (even with pre-2012 lenses) than there are those who have.

The difference is a fair number of those who have had issues have raised it on the various fora, whereas the rest of us have said nothing.

The view of SDM is therefore very skewed.

agreed...tempting price. however i noticed the irregular shape of iris, is that typicall for DA35 macro?
Yep! Saw a thread on this (or was it the other) forum recently, with examples of the same 'problem' exhibited by a lot of top class glass, all without affecting lens performance.

Tried all my own lenses, and not only did they all 'suffer' from this to a greater or lesser degree, but none of them were consistent.

Can't afford a new one, and the insurance says I was careless.
Is your insurance company missing the point? It's what you buy insurance for! Accidents and the like...

Maybe they should read their own small print.

Not deliberate = accident (aka careless) = they pay out.

If this was a one-off event involving only Charlotte's k-x then I would side with Amazon to some extent, but it's clearly an inherent fault with the k-x evidenced by the fact that others report the same fault, so it is clearly an inherent manufacturing defect that takes time to show itself, probably related to the amount of use the camera gets rather than the age of the camera.

Amazon's suggestion that using it for longer than 12 months is 'evidence' (my word) that there was no fault at the time of purchase is wrong. What if it had been bought and used only a couple of times in that period? Conversely, what if it had been used 60x24x7? If could have failed inside the first month. Moot argument.

Also, since Amazon are referencing and arguing UK law, and thus accepting it falls within UK jurisdiction, then the Small Claims Court process can be used for recourse, which can now be done wholly over the internet I believe, and doesn't cost much.

+1, especially as you live in France. Not as clear cut here in the UK, as I don't believe 'we' have signed up to this.

Do you happen to know if the Katz Eye of the K20D also fits the K5?
Katz Eye list them separately on their site, so probably not.

Slightly bigger magnification and the eyecup shields the stray
light from entering your eye better. The Pentax one seems to
vignette the screen in the top right hand corner when I use
it. Probably more secure because you actually clamp it on
with two screws.

Any magnifying eyecup is an enormous improvement for things
like manual focusing.
Thanks for your reply. Should have come back to check sooner!
