Any evidence the lens has been taken apart?

Worth exploring getting a lab to develop and scan the films instead?

If the volume is relatively low it may well prove cost effective given cost of chemicals, scanner, your time, etc.

To be fair, looking at the design of the CF card we could surmise that pins will get bent.
Not so John. The design criteria is solid. As long as the assembly is manufactured to the specifications it ensures correct alignment of the card with the pins. The card face has lead in tapers that accommodate any minor pin off centres. This is a method that is also used in the measurement and control industry.

Poor selection of pin array or guide tolerance deviations by a manufacturer is more likely the reason. Basically down to cost savings.

Best regards
So, if the fundamental design of CF cards, etc, is not the issue, I presume it must be badly designed or manufactured cameras?

Are SD cards really that much slower (now)?

Sony seem to have problems with their lens USM motors, and as for the Nikon D800s and Canon 5D Mk 111, well...

And who'd want a camera that uses CF cards?

PF: Pentax K-5 II vs. K-5 IIs

Quote:
What convinced us that the removal of the AA filter wasn't a mere gimmick, however, was an internal study that Pentax conducted with the camera- it surprised even their own engineers, who jokingly said that K-5 IIs has the ability to reveal facial features that you never thought were there! We saw a side-by-side comparison of a photo from the K-5 II and the same photo from the K-5 IIs and were (almost) instantly sold. The K-5 IIs appeared to have a very clear increase in resolution (but of course you do have to factor in the risk of seeing moire patterns in your images)! Pentax claimed that this sort of resultion was "unprecendented" in its class. Pentax also promised to send us these sample photos, and we will post them as soon as they do.
Thanks for the links. I have read them (or similar), and the quote from the other forum is what really got me thinking about which 'II' to get.

I hope Pentax release those photos they refer to soon and some decent side-by-side comparative reviews of the new Pentax bodies are conducted, then fingers crossed there'll be some price promotions.

I also had that crisis of confidence some while back, but decided it's not the techical aspects of photography that's a problem for me, it's the creative, artistic, side.

My (partial) solution was to sign up for photography days run by professional garden togs at RHS Wisley and Kew, both of which are close to home, where I could spend time with other photographers and learn from them how they approached photographing (in this instance) trees, plants, landscapes, etc.

Result? Lots of technically good, poor compositions, of trees, plants, landscapes, etc! Oh, and days to myself away from the family.

Give yourself time and space to go out and play. You'll find you're much better than you think you are.

Thanks all. Thought it was just the cost of adding the 's' to 'K-5 II'

Seriously though, having researched AA vs. no AA, I could see this 's' version selling well. Be interesting to see real world results.
