I've used the Tamron 1.4x and Teleplus 1.5x SHQ converters with the Tamron 90mm Di Macro and they work well. If I get chance Sunday I'll try the Teleplus 2x MC7 and post a couple of results. The Tamron 70-300 LD Di works well in Macro mode 0.95m @ 1:2 if you're after an affordable longer lens.

A lot of younger people could benefit from this, everything that made the KX, MX, LX, MZ-5, MZ-5n, MZ-3, K10D, K20D, K7 and K5 great cameras.

You don't mention the aperture in use, have you tried the lens at f/5.6 or f/8 for increased DoF, also it's probably the optimum aperture and may resolve any issues with softness at the edge of the image.
